Alcohol-to-go Bill Passes PA Senate; Man Shot By Off-Duty Cop Charged; MOVE Disaster 35 Years Later

A bill permitting some restaurants and bars to sell prepared alcoholic beverages to go passed the Pennsylvania Senate on Wednesday, 5/13. It was a unanimous vote 48-0. The bill previously passed the PA House of Representatives on 4/28 by a 193-9 vote. It will now go to Governor Wolf's desk. Establishments must have a valid restaurant or hotel liquor license and lost more than 25% of their average monthly total sales. They would be permitted to sell mixed drinks from 4 ounces up to 64... New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced on Wednesday, 5/13, that non-essential retail and construction can resume in the state beginning on Monday, 5/18, with restrictions. Murphy will be signed an executive order. Non-essential stores can reopen, however, no customers will be allowed inside retail stores and stores can open for curbside pickup only. Man Charged With Shooting 3 Teens on Bus; Man Dead in Burned Home After Standoff; Philly Free Cribs

A security guard is being charged for shooting three teenagers on a SEPTA bus last month that he claimed was in self defense. 24-year-old Brandon Ferguson is charged with four counts of aggravated assault, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person. It happened around 1 a.m. on April 16 on the Route 58 SEPTA bus northbound on Bustleton Ave. in Oxford Circle. The three teens, ages 15, 16, and 17, approached Ferguson in the back of the bus. Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney announced on Tuesday, 5/12, that this year's annual Wawa Welcome American Fourth of July celebrations will be held virtually due to the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. The weeklong celebration here in the birthplace of our nation is scheduled for June 28-July 4. New Jersey State Police Superintendent Col. Patrick Callahan has clarified a directive that went out over the weekend that said that 'wave parades' violated Governor Phil Murphy's executive order prohibiting public gatherings. The directive was included in a letter from the Department of Education sent to schools about how to celebrate graduation and proms. The New Jersey Air National Guard will be flying over the state around mid-day on Tuesday, May 12, to honor heath care and other front line workers. The New Jersey Salutes Flyover is part of the nationwide Air Force Salutes Flyover series. The City of Philadelphia has announced the creation of an emergency rent assistance program that will help up to 3,000 residents stay in their homes because of this coronavirus COVID-19 crisis. Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting at a cemetery in Bear that has left two people shot. It happened around 10:15 a.m. on Friday, 5/8, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery on the 2400 block of Chesapeake City Road. Police arrived to find a man and a woman suffering from gun shot wounds. One was taken to the hospital. Their conditions are not known. Police say the shots came from an adjacent wooded area.
