New Jersey Clarifies 'Wave Parade' Directive; Monto Commissioner Tests Positive; Man Assaults Clerk

New Jersey State Police Superintendent Col. Patrick Callahan has clarified a directive that went out over the weekend that said that 'wave parades' violated Governor Phil Murphy's executive order prohibiting public gatherings. The directive was included in a letter from the Department of Education sent to schools about how to celebrate graduation and proms. Drive-by parades have become a popular alternative to in-person celebrations for birthdays, milestones, funerals, or to honor first responders. "If seven cars want to drive by at a senior's house and that family is on the front porch or yard that is certainly not in violation of the EO," Callahan said. "Directing students to gather on the front lawn of a school, on a football stadium, or a town hall what you're doing is inviting them to gather what is in violation of the EO." You can continue to hold drive-by parades and wave out the window to wish someone well, just stay in the car, and don't gather together outside.

Ken Lawrence, the vice chair of the Montgomery County Commissioners, has tested positive for coronavirus COVID-19. Lawrence was tested at a testing event at the Second Baptist Church in Pottstown on Saturday, 5/9. He says he has been asymptomatic, but will be self-quarantining for the next 14-days. Montgomery County officials have moved to virtual meetings and briefings.

Montgomery County will be consolidating polling locations for the June 2 presidential primary. They'll be reducing locations from 352 to 140. Voters will be getting a letter in the mail telling them their polling place. You can still apply for a mail-in ballot. Applications are due to the county election office by 5 p.m. on May 26. A Bucks County man is under arrest after assaulting a store employee who asked the man to wear a mask or face covering while inside the store. 24-year-old Elijah Brown is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, and other related charges. It happened on Friday on West Walnut Street in Perkasie. Brown attacked the clerk after refusing to put on a mask and fled. Police chased after him. While trying to take him into custody, Brown also allegedly struck and officer with his knee. He is being held at Bucks County Prison in lieu of $30,000 bail.
