Faith Healing Schaibles Sentenced; Instagram Gun Pranksters Arrested; Tollefson Bail Reduced

The couple from Northeast Philadelphia who believed in faith-healing over modern medicine has been sentenced in the death of their 8-month-old son who died of treatable pneumonia. Herbert and Catherine Schaible were sentenced to 3 ½ to 7 years in prison. The couple plead no contest in the death of their son Brandon last April. Instead of seeking proper medical treatment, the couple believed he could be healed solely by the power of prayer. In a similar incident, the Schaible's 2-year-old son Kent died in 2009 after falling ill and never receiving medical attention. Back then the court ordered the couple to get annual checkups of their other seven children and call a doctor if they became ill, a probation stipulation they obviously did not follow. Their children are now in foster care.

Two Philadelphia men have been arrested for a series of drive-by pranks where the suspects would pretend to rob their victims with a fake gun just to catch their reaction. The men would video the incidents and post them to social networks like Instagram. Although they thought it was pretty funny, their victims did not, filing several police reports. 21-year-old Daron Stinson and 19-year-old Courtland Gilliam were seen driving up to residents and engaging in conversation before pointing a pellet gun at them and filming them duck, run, or fall down before the two drove away laughing. They are probably are not laughing anymore after being charged with with robbery, simple assault and other crimes. Police have interviewed some of the victims and are asking any other victims to come forward.

Attorneys for a former Philadelphia sportscaster and media personality were able to get his bail reduced today after being unable to post it following his arraignment in a Bucks County court on Tuesday. 61-year-old Don Tollefson is charged with felony theft and dealing in the proceeds of unlawful activity as well as misdemeanor violations of state law governing charities. His bail has been reduced from 10% of $250,000 to just $10,000. The judge agreed that he can put up his Glenside home as collateral. Tollefson is accused of taking around $100,000 from 100 different victims. He promised ticket packages to events such as the Super Bowl, Kentucky Derby, and Eagles games but never delivered them to buyers. The charities, like the Special Olympics, Salvation Army, or Brad Fox Foundation, who were the supposed beneficiaries also did not receive their share.
