Philadelphia City Council had its last stated meeting before the summer recess on Thursday, 6/25. There were no surprises, just the formality of voting, but today's session brought big change to the City, a culmination to the reaction to the last three months. All of the bills and resolutions were approved, but there are certainly factions who still feel left out wishing for more and wondering why or how they weren't heard despite their calls. A man has been arrested in the murder of a missing Haverford Township woman whose body was discovered in a trash bag in Germantown on Tuesday night, 6/23. 26-year-old Kareem Davis-Duppins is charged with first-degree murder, abuse of corpse, and related offenses in the death of 25-year-old Sabrina Dubose of Haverford Township. Philadelphia city officials say that they will seek the removal of the statue of Christopher Columbus from Marconi Plaza in South Philadelphia 'in light of ongoing public safety concerns about the presence of armed individuals at Marconi Plaza and confrontations between those who support the statue and those opposed to it.' Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association have come to an agreement on starting the 2020 season. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced on Tuesday, 6/23, that outdoor amusement parks, water parks, and playgrounds will be allowed to reopen on July 2. Amusement and water parks will have to operate at 50% capacity. Guests and workers will have to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines. Rides and other areas will be frequently sanitized.

Bill Cosby has won the right to appeal his 2018 sexual assault conviction. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court will hear that appeal. The 82-year-old was convicted on three felony sex-assault counts and sentenced to 3-10 years in state prison for drugging and assaulting a woman in his Cheltenham, Montgomery County, home in 2004. A Northeast Philadelphia-native was one of three people killed in a possible terrorist attack in the United Kingdom over the weekend. 39-year-old Joe Ritchie-Bennett has been identified as one of the victims. He attended Father Judge High School and his family still lives in Mayfair. He lived in the UK for the past 15 years. A body has been found as crews search the Delaware River for a missing swimmer on Sunday night, 6/21. The U.S. Coast Guard and several local fire departments and emergency squads have been searching the waters near Delanco, New Jersey. The 22-year-old man was swimming with friends near a boat ramp off Delaware and Union Avenues. He became separated from his friends and they called 911 when they didn't see him resurface. Philadelphia Police say that two Center City stores that had already been looted and subsequently boarded up amid unrest earlier this month were burglarized again early Saturday morning, 6/20. It happened around 5 a.m. along the 1600 block of Chestnut Street. Alarms were set off at both the Old Navy and Men's Warehouse stores. The Philadelphia Phillies confirmed on Friday, 6/19, that 8 members of the organization at the team's facility in Clearwater, Florida, have tested positive for coronavirus COVID-19.
