Philly-native Killed in UK Terror Attack; NJ Casinos/Indoor Dining; Parx Reopening; Double Shooting

A Northeast Philadelphia-native was one of three people killed in a possible terrorist attack in the United Kingdom over the weekend. 39-year-old Joe Ritchie-Bennett has been identified as one of the victims. He attended Father Judge High School and his family still lives in Mayfair. He lived in the UK for the past 15 years. The attack happened on Saturday, 6/20, around 7 p.m. at Forbury Gardens Park in Reading, about 40 miles west of London. The 25-year-old suspect stabbed and killed three people sitting in the park and injured three others. Police do not yet have a motive, but believe he acted alone. There had been a Black Lives Matter protest hours earlier in the park, but authorities say the stabbing and the protest are not connected. Ritchie-Bennett first moved to London to work at a law firm, and then took a job at a Dutch pharmaceutical company. In 2006, he married Ian Bennett and they merged names. Bennett died in 2014 at the age of 32 from colon cancer. Ritchie-Bennett's older brother, Robert, is Philadelphia's 7th District Police Captain. UK Police have not identified the suspect, but the BBC identifies him as Khairi Saadallah, a Libyan-native seeking asylum who is living in Reading.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced on Monday, 6/22, that casinos and indoor dining may resume in the state on Thursday, June 2. Establishments that do reopen will have to operate at 25% capacity. There will be additional health and safety guidance released in the next several days.


Parx Casino in Bensalem, Bucks County, announced that it will reopen on Monday, June 29, at 9 a.m. It will be open Monday-Thursday 9 a.m. to 3 a.m. and will be closed for cleaning overnights. From Friday at 9 a.m. to Monday at 3 a.m. it will be open 24/7 with ongoing cleaning. There are various safety and social distancing guidelines that will be followed. There will be reduced capacity allowed inside the casino. Guests will have their temperature checked at the door and will be asked some questions. You must wear a mask or face covering at all times. Masks will be provided if you do not have one. Tables, machines, and games have been spaced out for proper distancing. Hand sanitizer is available throughout the property. There will be frequent cleaning of all surfaces in the building. Employees are also screened and have to wear masks. Valet parking is not available at this time. See full details at the link below.

A man was killed and his wife was injured in a double shooting in Southwest Philadelphia early Monday morning, 6/22. It happened just before 12:30 a.m. on the 1400 block of South Vogdes Street in Kingsessing. The couple was outside their home when it occurred. They were shot in front of family members, including their adult children. They were both taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital. The 42-year-old husband died from his injuries. The wife remains in critical condition. There have been no arrests, but the shooter is known to the family.

Philadelphia Eagles TE Dallas Goedert was sucker punched while inside a bar in South Dakota on Saturday morning, 6/20. The 25-year-old was knocked unconscious and taken to the hospital as a precaution. He is expected to be ok. Surveillance footage has been posted on social media. It happened just after 1 a.m. at The Zoo Bar in Aberdeen, about 60 miles from Goedert's home town of Britton. The 6' 5" 265-pound NFL player was blindsided by a punch to the head, knocking him to the ground. A suspect has been arrested. No other details have been released.
