The sudden death of a Drexel University sophomore is believed to be a case of meningitis. The exact cause of mechanical engineering major Stephanie Ross' death is not known at this point, but Universiity officials are taking precautionary measures. Ross was found unresponsive in her sorority house along Powelton Ave. on Monday morning by her Phi Mu (Beta Tau) sisters and transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. A 24 year old Point Breeze woman was shot twice at point blank range overnight. The woman was asleep in her bedroom when she awoke to see a man wearing a dark mask standing over her bed. He fired two shots at her and fled the scene. She was able to call for help and is in stable condition. Nothing was taken from the home. Police are searching for a motive.

Philadelphia Police say a male student at the Masterman High School in Spring Garden is expected to be criminally charged for allegedly posting a threat to a school administrator online. The so called 'wedding crasher thief' has plead guilty to stealing cash and gifts from two different weddings last June. 35-year-old Joseph Patrick Franzone Jr. of Bridgeport plead guilty today in Montgomery County Court to theft and attempted theft charges. On June 9th 2013, he stole the card cage containing $3000-$5000 from the William Penn Inn in Lower Gwynedd Township. Officials are investigating the discovery of the mangled remains of a large animal on a vacant lot in North Philadelphia. The animal’s skin, paws and ears had all been removed, making it difficult to identify the species, however it is believed to be some sort of large feline – such as an ocelot or a bobcat. The animal had been shot and the surgical instruments used to mutilate the cat were found at the scene.

It's been a violent couple of days on the 900 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard in Trenton, New Jersey. At least two people were hit as gunfire erupted just after 4pm on Sunday. About 20 people were standing around a small memorial service for a shooting victim – a homicide that occurred just one day earlier on the same block. During the memorial service, someone opened fire, and at least two people were hit. One of the gunshot victims is in critical condition.

Police are searching for the driver in a fatal hit-and-run in Collingdale, Delaware County. 58-year-old Timothy McCaughan was crossing the intersection of Clifton Avenue and Spruce Street around 9:30 p.m. Friday when he was struck by and older model SUV. Gloucester County prosecutors have charged an ex-boyfriend in the murder of a woman found dead in her home on Wednesday night. 55-year-old Rocco L. Pope Francis will come to Philadelphia in September of 2015. In preparation for the visit, Archbishop Charles Chaput, Mayor Michael Nutter and Governor Tom Corbett will visit with Pope Francis later this month.
