Collingdale Hit-and-Run; Off Duty Cop Shoots Man During Fight; Women Loses Finger in Parking Fight

Police are searching for the driver in a fatal hit-and-run in Collingdale, Delaware County. 58-year-old Timothy McCaughan was crossing the intersection of Clifton Avenue and Spruce Street around 9:30 p.m. Friday when he was struck by and older model SUV. According to witnesses, the driver got out of the vehicle, made some comments, and then got back in and fled. McCaughan, a father of 3 and grandfather of 2 with a third on the way, was pronounced dead at Crozer Chester Hospital. The vehicle was caught on surveillance video nearby (see picture below). It is a light tan or white Chevy Suburban. The driver is described as a light-skinned African-American or Spanish male standing 6-foot-2 with a close-cut full beard, and short curly hair. A man was shot by an off-duty Philadelphia police officer during a struggle that escalated from an argument over dog waste. It started Saturday morning just before noon. The off-duty officer was outside of his home on the 6400 block of Oakley Street when a man walking his dog walked by his house. The dog defecated on the officer's lawn and he asked the man to clean it up. The two men began to argue and the man left.

He came back a short time later without the dog and approached the officer. They became engaged in a physical altercation, with the man punching the officer in the face and head several times. The man eventually pulled the officer's hooded sweatshirt over his head and got behind him still striking his head. The officer reached for his pistol and fired backward hitting the man's thigh.

Both men were treated at the hospital for their injuries and released. The incident is being investigated by Internal Affairs and the District Attorney's office. The officer will be placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation. The man's name isn't being released at this time. He will be charged with aggravated assault regarding this incident.

A parking dispute in a suburban mall parking lot Saturday turned ugly with one woman losing part of a finger. It happened around 4:45 pm in the parking lot outside of Nordstrom's at the Cherry Hill Mall in Cherry Hill, NJ. The victim, a 42-year-old female, was approached by 2 black females over a parking dispute between them. The argument quickly became physical. The victim's finger was bitten by one of the suspects. Police say that a portion of her finger was severely severed. The victim was transported to Cooper Hospital and is in stable condition. The suspect is described as a black female, heavy set, mid 30's, 'natural' hair, driving a late model Audi. (see photo below). Anyone that witnessed the dispute or knows the identity of this female is asked to call the Cherry Hill Police Department at (856) 488-7828.
