A woman in Langhorne is recovering from burns she sustained when her laptop exploded. Loretta Luff (pictured) of Langhorne Manor was checking email while she and her disabled husband were watching the Phillies game. She says her Dell Inspirion 1501 battery pack blew up sending battery acid and burning parts onto her shirt and all around her. She was treated for first and second degree burns after putting out the fires around her.

The Republican-controlled state Senate is poised to approve legislation allowing Philadelphia to help fund its public schools with a cigarette tax increase. Philadelphia officials say that imposing a $2 per-pack city excise tax on cigarette sales will provide $83 million for its schools. Without the money, they say the schools won’t be fit to open in the fall.

The US Coast Guard has suspended it's search for a 14-year-old boy who went missing while swimming in the water off Ocean City, NJ. They called off the search at 4:30 Monday afternoon. They had been searching a 50 square mile area. Ocean City Fire and Beach Patrol will continue their search on Tuesday morning. A 14 year old boy was swept away from the beach by rip currents in Ocean City on Sunday. The boy was reported missing near 9th Street and the U.S. Coast Guard was alerted. The boy was swimming with friends when all were pulled into the ocean and tossed around. The 14 year old is the only one who did not resurface.

A 3-year-old girl was killed Saturday afternoon in a freak accident when a security gate fell on her outside the Rita's Water Ice in the the city's Brewerytown neighborhood. It happened around 4:30 pm at 2829 West Girard Avenue. The large gate detached from the wall, crashed to the sidewalk making a loud boom, and landed directly on the girl. Delaware State Police say that the driver of a UPS tractor-trailer that flipped onto it's side, blocking traffic for hours on I-95 in Delaware Friday morning, had fallen asleep at the wheel. It appears the Showboat Casino in Atlantic City is ready to cash in its chips. Bob McDevitt, President of Unite Here Local 54 says he was notified by Showboat's parent company, Caesars Entertainment that layoff notices were going out on Friday. McDevitt, whose union represents 900 of the casino's 2,100 employees, calls the closing a criminal act on the citizens of Atlantic City.

Witnesses recorded and posted video of a violent attack against a mother by a McDonald's employee in Salem City, NJ on Tuesday.
