Ford is recalling 2.3 million vehicles that have faulty car door latches, and Ford is expecting the cost of the recall to dip into its profits. On Thursday, Ford expanded a recall announced Sunday that initially included 830,000 cars, saying the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration requested it be expanded to include 1.5 million additional vehicles. A woman is in custody after a violent police chase and crash in Port Richmond on Thursday evening. It started around 9:15 p.m. near E and Clearfield streets in Kensington. Philadelphia Police attempted to pull over a Jeep that was reported stolen. The suspect tried to ram a police vehicle and run over a police officer. Police opened fire on the car. All Philadelphia public schools as well as Archdiocesan High schools and grade schools in Philadelphia have annouced early dismissals for Friday due to the excessive heat. Schools will close at Noon. Temperatures are expected to reach 94 degrees which would tie the record set in 1884, but the heat index will make it feel more like 100. After school activities will also be cancelled. Suburban schools in the Archdiocese will make their own individual decisions.

A Delaware County Police Officer who was shot 7 times while on duty in June will return to work this week. Christopher Dorman has been cleared to return to full police duty, Folcroft Borough police said via Twitter. His first shift will be Friday night. Dorman, 25, was ambushed while responding to a drug-related call in late June. He was shot seven times but has since made a full recovery.
