All Philadelphia public schools as well as Archdiocesan High schools and grade schools in Philadelphia have annouced early dismissals for Friday due to the excessive heat. Schools will close at Noon. Temperatures are expected to reach 94 degrees which would tie the record set in 1884, but the heat index will make it feel more like 100. After school activities will also be cancelled. Suburban schools in the Archdiocese will make their own individual decisions.

All lanes of I-95 North in New Castle, DE finally reopened this afternoon after being blocked for around 12 hours Thursday following an overturned tractor-trailer. It happened just before 2:00 a.m. near the I-295 split. The truck hit a jersey barrier, overturned, and caught fire. It was hauling penny blanks to the Philadelphia mint which spilled out all over the highway. After the fire was estinguished and the driver treated for minor injuries, crews worked for hours to clear all the debris and retrieve the thousands of shiny planchets covering the roadway. Morning commuters were detoured around I-95. All lanes reopened around 3:00 p.m. No word on what caused the crash.

For his actions at a Brazilian gas station and story after, US Swimmer Ryan Locate has been banned by the U.S. Olympic Committee and USA Swimming for 10 months until June 2017. That will preclude his involvement in the 2017 National Championships and 2017 World Championships. He will forfeit $100,000 in bonus money for winning gold in Rio. During the suspension he will not receive a monthly stipend from US Swimming and will not have access to their training facilities. He will not be allowed to visit the White House with Team USA for the Rio 2016 games. He must also perform 20 hours of community service. The other swimmers involved received similar punishments, but only 4 month suspensions.

Tonight,
Heat Advisory Remains in Effect, Party Cloudy, temperatures mid/upper 80's this evening in Center City
