GSK $5 Million Donation, Katz Crash Flight Recorder Found, Mother Pleads Guilty To Son's Death

GSK, formerly Glaxo SmithKline, and the Philadelphia Foundation have announced a $5 million grant package available to non-profits which will lead to healthier lives. It's called the GSK IMPACT Grant. The Philadelphia Foundation is a public charity community foundation which manages more than 800 charitable funds. The flight crew that died in a fiery crash aboard Philadelphia Inquirer co-owner Lewis Katzâ€™s private plane this weekend had flown for the millionaire businessman and philanthropist for a decade, and among them was a pilot who survived an earlier fatal crash, relatives said Monday. Katzâ€™s Gulfstream jet crashed during takeoff near Boston on Saturday night, killing him, three guests and three crew. The cockpit was burned but mostly intact, with the nose resting on a hill, and the burned-out fuselage lying in a ravine. The victimsâ€™ bodies had been removed. The National Transportation Safety Board said Monday evening it had recovered the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder. A public memorial service for him was planned for Wednesday at Temple University in Philadelphia, where Katz was an alumnus and trustee.

The Philadelphia District Attorneyâ€™s Office says the mother of a five-year-old boy that was brutally beaten to death, and her boyfriend will both spend 25 to 50 years in prison for the heinous crime. Christian Patrick, 26, and Lashay Patterson, 25, each pleaded guilty to third-degree murder, conspiracy and related offenses in the death of Pattersonâ€™s five-year-old son, Dashawn Harris. Kirn says the couple initially lied about the abuse, but later Patterson admitted it had been ongoing for three months.
