Keith Gibson Arrested in Dunkin' Murder/Robbery + more; Del I-95 Hazmat; Temple Hires New President

Philadelphia Police say a person has been arrested in connection to the murder and robbery of an employee at a North Philadelphia Dunkin' Donuts store early Saturday morning, 6/5. 39-year-old Keith Gibson was taken into custody in Delaware and is currently being held on robbery charges. Police believe that Gibson is responsible for numerous robberies and shootings in the area, describing him as a 'serial killer.' Delaware authorities took Gibson into custody on Tuesday, 6/8, following another robbery at a Rite Aid at 4th and Adams streets in Wilmington on Tuesday morning. He was wearing a bullet proof vest and in possession of a gun, ammunition, a knife, and drugs. He is being held on $300,000 bail.

Gibson is accused of killing 40-year-old Christine Lugo after he robbed the Dunkin' on the 500 block of W. Lehigh Avenue on Saturday, 6/5. Police believe he killed his mother, 54-year-old Christine Gibson, on February 8. Gibson is also the suspect in the murder of a T-Mobile employee in Elsmere, DE on May 15. Gibson was convicted of homicide and commercial robbery in Delaware in 2008. The investigation is on going. He has not yet been charged in any of these three murders.

A shelter-in-place order was put into effect along a section of I-95 in New Castle County in Delaware as officials deal with a hazardous chemical spill due to an accident on the highway. The accident happened around daybreak in the northbound lanes near the Airport Road and Route 141 exit. The highway is closed in both directions, including Route 141 over I-95. A pickup truck pulling a trailer filled with 1,500 pounds of organic peroxide crashed into the back of a tractor trailer. The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control issued the shelter-in-place around 1 p.m. for a half mile radius around the crash scene. Officials decided to burn off the chemical to get rid of it. "The roadway will be closed for an extended period due to a crash involving hazmat material spilled on the roadway. Motorists should seek alternate routes of travel," the Delaware State Police said. The pickup driver sustained non life-threatening injuries.

Temple University announced the hiring of their new president on Tuesday, 6/8. Dr. Jason Wingard will become the 12 president of the university and the first Black president in the school's history. He will begin his term of July 1. Wingard currently lives in Chestnut Hill and is a West Chester native. He most recently served as the dean of the Columbia University School of Professional Study. He also worked as vice dean of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He founded The Education Board, Inc., a management consulting firm that focuses on executive coaching and corporate training and served as the managing director and chief learning officer at Goldman Sachs. Wingard earned his bachelors degree in sociology at Stanford University, a masters in education from Emory University, a masters in technology in education from Harvard University and a doctorate in education, culture and society from the University of Pennsylvania. Wingard was selected after a 10-month national search by Temple.
