Senate Democrats on Tuesday blocked a $1.1 billion bill to combat the Zika virus. They opposed provisions in the bill that would have blocked funding for Planned Parenthood and that would have allowed Confederate flags to fly at military veteran cemeteries. The vote failed 52 to 46. It needed 60 votes to advance.

Philadelphia Police have arrested and charged a man with murder who allegedly ran over a woman multiple times and then beat her with a shovel. 50-year-old Joel Horton is charged in the death of 52-year-old Adrienne Lindsay. It happened around 8:30 p.m. Sunday September 4th in the 700 block of West Louden Street in the Logan section. Horton repeated ran over Lindsay in his Nissan Maxima. A man has died after being shot in the back of the head late Monday night. Police responded to a shooting inside a home on the 8300 block of Williams Avenue around 9:30pm. Upon arrival they found an unconscious 29-year-old man in the basement suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to the hospital in serious condition, and was pronounced dead around 11:00pm.
