Williams Avenue Shooting, Off Duty Officer Weapon Discharge, Wentz Starting Eagles QB

A man has died after being shot in the back of the head late Monday night. Police responded to a shooting inside a home on the 8300 block of Williams Avenue around 9:30pm. Upon arrival they found an unconscious 29-year-old man in the basement suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to the hospital in serious condition, and was pronounced dead around 11:00pm. There is no known motive for the shooting at this time, but several family members and neighbors say they heard an argument, before the victim yelled for someone to call the police, followed by a gunshot. No weapons were recovered from the scene and no one else was hurt. Detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting.

One person was shot Monday night when an off-duty police officerâ€™s weapon was discharged. Authorities report an off-duty weapon was discharged twice during an altercation between the officer and a family member inside the officerâ€™s home around 6:30pm. Crews arrived at the residence on the 2700 block of Taunton Street to find a man shot once in the torso. The man was taken to the hospital in critical condition and is now stable. The off-duty officer was taken to internal affairs to be interviewed.

Wentz, a North Dakota transplant chosen second overall in this yearâ€™s draft, injured his ribs in his first preseason game with the Birds. Before winning any games, heâ€™s already won a lot of hearts. Wentzâ€™s number 11 is currently the 6th best selling jersey in the NFL. Wentz will make his NFL debut Sunday at 1 p.m. at Lincoln Financial Field against the Cleveland Browns.
