Pennsylvania officials announced on Wednesday, 3/31, that all Pennsylvanians 16+ will be eligible for the coronavirus COVID-19 vaccine by April 19. This is part of a three-week accelerated vaccine rollout. Today, all law enforcement, firefighters, grocery store, and food workers are eligible. On April 5, all of Phase 1B is eligible and on April 12 all of Phase 1C is open. On those dates you'll be allowed to put your name on the list and sign up for appointments at vaccine providers either through county health departments, hospitals, heath care providers, pharmacies, or vaccine clinics. Use the state's Pennsylvania Vaccine Provider Map to find a vaccine provider nearest you or call 1-877-PA-HEALTH. Philadelphia runs its vaccine distribution separate from the rest of the state. They have said they expect to open up vaccinations to all adults on May 2.

"Pennsylvania's vaccine providers have dramatically stepped up the pace of vaccinations to an average of 83,000 per day, moving the keystone state higher and higher in the rankings with other states. As we complete Phase 1A vaccinations, it's time to open eligibility to more Pennsylvanians so providers can continue to fill appointments and efficiently, effectively and equitably vaccinate more people every day," Acting Health Secretary Alison Beam said.

Philadelphia Police say that a fire at a hotel in Old City on Wednesday morning, 3/31, was intentionally set by a homeless man. The arson fire began around 9:30 a.m. at the Society Hill Hotel located at 3rd and Chestnut Streets. The building was occupied at the time and everyone was evacuated. Fire crews brought it under control in 20 minutes. "Anytime you get something down here, you can see these buildings, all different sizes, all different construction, it's important to get here quick and luckily we got here quick this morning," Philadelphia Fire Department Battalion Chief William McPeak. Police are searching for a man wearing a blue puffy jacket and surgical mask.

Philadelphia Police have obtained an arrest warrant for a man sought in a shooting last Friday, 3/26, that killed an 11-year-old boy and injured a 14-year-old boy. 19-year-old Khaleek Cooper-Baldwin has been named as the man "responsible for the murder." It happened around 6:30 p.m. on the 1500 block of McKinley Street in Oxford Circle. The two boys were riding motorized scooters when they were shot. 11-year-old Harley Belance, a 5th grader, was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital where he died a short time later. The 14-year-old was hit in the arm and ankle. He was taken to Jeanes Hospital in stable condition. Police do not know if the boys were targeted or if there was another motive for the shooting.
