Federal Charges in Sgt. O'Connor Murder; Bucks Man Ambushed and Shot; SEPTA Closing Ticket Offices

U.S. Attorney William McSwain announced federal charges against four men in the fatal shooting of Philadelphia Police Sgt. James O'Connor back in March. 22-year-old Hassan Elliot, 19-year-old Khalif Sears, 20-year-old Bilal Mitchell, and 25-year-old Sherman Easterling, all of Philadelphia, are charged with murder in the course of using or carrying a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime; using or carrying a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime; possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking; conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine and marijuana; possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine and marijuana; and maintaining a drug involved premises. Elliott and Easterling are also charged with with possession of a firearm by a felon.

46-year-old Sgt. O'Conner was killed early in the morning on March 13 while serving an arrest warrant for murder on the 1600 block of Bridge Street in Frankford. Elliot fired the fatal shots through a door on the second floor as officers approached. The warrant for a March 2019 murder was for him. He has been charged with O'Connor's murder by Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner's Office. This new indictment makes Elliot eligible for the federal death penalty. "The truth is, as a practical matter, Krasner's pro-violent defendant policies are what put Elliott on the street," said McSwain. "They put this horrible chain of events in motion and in that sense, these policies are every bit responsible for Sgt. O'Connor's alleged murder as (are) the defendants." McSwain wants Krasner to step aside and allow the federal court take the case.

Police in Bucks County are investigating after a man was shot multiple times and killed in Middletown Township on Thursday morning, 12/10. It happened just before 6 a.m. in the parking lot of Kuusakoski Recycling on the 900 block of Wheeler Way. 52-year-old Christopher Wilson had just arrived for his shift at work when he was ambushed by two men. Wilson was shot several times and was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspects may have gotten away in a dark-colored Nissan sedan. Police believe he knew his attackers and may have been targeted. "It's terribly tragic anytime somebody's killed, but this was just a regular class working man who met his terrible end in a homicide," said Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintrab. "Nobody deserves to be gunned down in a hail of bullets, but this guy was just getting ready to lead his life in an everyday fashion." The incident is being investigated by Bucks County District Attorneyâ€™s Office and the Middletown Township Police.

SEPTA announced that it will temporarily close 14 regional rail ticket offices starting Monday, December 14. The agency is shuttering the offices due to COVID-19 revenue losses. The stations will remain open. They will be closed until February 2021.
