Federal Bureau of Investigation agents were seen Friday morning, 10/16, at the headquarters of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 98 on Spring Garden Street. Agents were seen carrying out boxes of evidence from the offices. The FBI did not specify their actions but said they were "carrying out court-authorized law enforcement activity." IBEW Local 98 business manager Johnny 'Doc' Dougherty, Philadelphia City Councilman Bobby Henon, and six others were federally indicted last year on a variety of embezzlement, fraud, and theft charges. In 2016, the FBI raided the IBEW Local 98 offices as well as Dougherty's home and Henon's offices. Lawyers for IBEW Local 98 said in a statement on Friday, "We have no idea why the Feds staged today's made-for-TV event."
A statement from IBEW Local 98 lawyers:
"John Dougherty has been under federal scrutiny for 28 years and has never once failed to cooperate. Everything they took today, they either took previously or could have simply asked for it and we would have turned it over. John Dougherty has the entire Philadelphia Building Trades working safely and at full employment in the midst of a pandemic. He met the opioid abuse issue that hurt his members head on and beat it. His leadership on economic opportunities has re-energized the city. And now we get another orchestrated federal raid? The timing is curious, as well. Here we are less than three weeks from a Presidential Election. Two weeks ago, the Philadelphia Building Trades, which John Dougherty also leads, unanimously endorsed Joe Biden for President. Two days ago, Local 98 hung a massive Biden For President banner on its union hall. And today, the Feds raided Local 98 again. That seems more than coincidental. Local 98 has no comment with respect to the specifics of the search warrant inasmuch as the Union has no knowledge as to the scope or specific focus of the government's apparent investigation. Local 98 continues to work hard representing its members and would like to remind the public, and the media, that the Local Union has not been charged with any crimes in connection with the indictments that were issued in 2019."
An Atlantic City Police officer was able to pull a suicidal man back from the ledge of a parking garage and save his life last Wednesday evening, 10/14. It happened around 8:45 p.m. on top of the 13-story parking garage at the Claridge Hotel. IT was all captured on the officer's police cam. Officers were notified of a potentially suicidal man in the city and he was located at the garage. 33-year-old Officer Eric Knuttel, a member of the Crisis Negotiation Team, began to engage with the man to talk him down. After about 10 minutes the man stood up and started walking. Knuttel just ran towards the man and grabbed him by the legs so he couldn't move. Other officers then pulled both of them back on to the parking deck. An officer can be seen consoling the man saying, "I love you." He was taken to Atlantic Care Regional Medical Center for treatment. Sgt. John Waddell and Officers Matthew Stollenwerk, Randy Rodriguez-Marte, Irwin Sanchez and Kyle Fauvell also were involved in the rescue.

A peaceful protest was held at the Philadelphia Art Museum on Sunday afternoon, 10/18, by members of the region's Armenian American community. The group then moved to Old City where they blocked traffic on I-676 E at 3rd Street. They then moved onto I-95 N between the I-676 and Girard Ave Exits.
The countries of Armenia and Azerbaijan have recently reengaged in a longstanding bloody dispute over the province of Artsakh (formerly Nagorno-Karabakh). The area is officially within Azerbaijan but is home to ethnic Armenians. The latest conflict broke out on September 27 and has already killed 100s of troops and civilians. On Saturday, both sides had agreed on a ceasefire to start at midnight Sunday. It wasn't long into the truce that both sides had accused each other of breaching the ceasefire. On Sunday, they came to another tenuous agreement. Russia and Turkey have vested interests in the region's resources.
