Wildwood Police Release Bodycam Video; Kensington Homeless Camps Cleared; Colangelo Tweets

Wildwood Police have released the officer's bodycam video footage from an incident over Memorial Day weekend that led to the arrest of an underage Philadelphia woman for having alcohol on the beach. The incident gained notoriety after cell phone footage shot by a beachgoer showed the arresting officer strike the woman as he wrestled her to the ground. This footage shows the whole incident from inception. 20-year-old Emily Weinman from Kensington was arrested for numerous charges including assault of a police officer, spitting, and underage drinking. The officers have been identified as Ptlm. Thomas Cannon, Ptlm. John Hillman, and Ptlm. Robert Jordan. The Cape May County Prosecutors Office is investigating. The officers are on administrative duty.

Wednesday, 5/30, was the deadline for homeless to vacate two encampments in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. Notices went up about a month ago telling the people living in the underpasses at Lehigh and Tulip and Kensington and Lehigh they had to vacate by May 30th. Outreach workers have spent everyday since then offering services such as placement in shelters and treatment centers to those living in the encampments. Over the past few weeks many have taken those offers and moved out, however, many still remained today when officials arrived to clear the camps. Any items such as tents that were removed will be stored for 30 days. The city says that over the past month 120 people accepted help with 50 of them going to treatment. 25 people were able to get ID cards. This was a pilot program. Kensington has two more camps just like these two. The city hopes to learn from this program in how to deal with the other two. Not everyone got help, they just moved on to somewhere else. The opioid crisis continues.

LOVE Park reopened on Wednesday, 5/30, after being closed for renovations since February 2016. Officially the 2.3 acre space is JFK Plaza, but it is affectionately nicknamed for the LOVE Statue that appears on City Hall side of the park. $26 million were spent to fix drainage problems with the underground garage, plus a new fountain, green space, leveling of the grade, and more. The former welcome center will reopen next year as a restaurant. Expect programming to continue in the park all summer.

The Philadelphia 76ers are investigating reports that team president and general manager, Bryan Colangelo, is connected to multiple anonymous Twitter accounts that criticized players and the team. The accusations were first reported on The Ringer. In total, they identify five accounts that they believe were operated by the team executive. The accounts criticized Sixer players Joel Embiid and Markelle Fultz, former players Jahlil Okafor and Nerlens Noel, and former GM Sam Hinkie. Colangelo did admit to using one of the accounts so that he could follow news and the NBA industry, but never posted under that account, which is not unusual. He denied knowledge of the other four. All of the accounts went dark after being brought to his attention.

The 76ers said via a statement Wednesday morning, "An online media outlet filed a story linking multiple social media accounts to 76ers President of Basketball Operations Bryan Colangelo. The allegations are serious and we have commenced an independent investigation into the matter. We will report the results of that investigation as soon as it is concluded."
