James Matthews Getting "Out of County" Judge |

CBS 3 reports court officials in Montgomery County are now seeking an "out of county" district court judge to decide whether former county commissioner James Matthews will be held for trial on perjury charges.
The prosecution and the defense say they are both on the same page when it comes to assigning an "out of county" district justice to preside over the preliminary hearing.

Former Philadelphia City Council staffer Christopher Wright, former chief of staff to the recently retired at-large councilman Jack Kelly, had been convicted in 2009 of what's called "honest services fraud," for helping a developer who was giving him a rent-free apartment.

The Quadrantids meteor shower, which can potentially be the best natural lightshow of the year, will be visible Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. Viewing conditions will be ideal around Philadelphia with clear skies but it will be quite frigid with temperatures only about 20 degrees.

Eagles Chairman/CEO Jeffrey Lurie announced during today's press conference that head coach Andy Reid will return for his 14th season in 2012. After high expectations at the beginning of the season, the Eagles started off slow, but finished well to end the season 8-8. Reid has only had 1 losing season as head coach after his first year in 1999, and has had an overall record of 126-81-1.

The Winter Classic in Philadelphia was measured a success all around - except for the Flyers' loss to the Rangers.
Philadelphia Business Journal reported that counterfeit NHL Winter Classic merchandise worth $350,000 was seized from international mail facilities and local street vendors in Philadelphia, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations said.

The 2012 Mummers Parade in Philadelphia was another huge success in the long tradition of the New Years Day tradition. The weather was perfect, and aside from a little brawl between some mummers and viewers caught on video, the day could not have been better.
Especially for the Woodland String Band. The band snagged first place for the first time in its 87-year history. Woodland was last to pass the judges but made a lasting impression.

Philadelphia Archbishop Charles Chaput is seeking to sell the large estate in Overbrook where he lives.
A source says the proposal to sell the archbishops' residence has been presented to the priests' counsel and the finance counsel and now has only to be approved by the Vatican.

According to a top tourism official, it was a rip-roaring New Year's holiday in terms of bringing people to enjoy the festivities in Philadelphia.

Mayor Michael Nutter was sworn in for a second term at an Inaugural Ceremony at the Academy of Music.
In his inaugural speech, Mayor Nutter addressed several challenges the city faces including violence, with six murders this New Year’s weekend in Philadelphia. Mayor Nutter talked about some of his plans including implementing 120 new police officers by this summer.
He also said public education is the other major challenge facing this city.
