State of Young Philly is an annual two-week event that brings together young professionals and "young at hearts" to discuss ways they can promote a better future for Philadelphia.
The event wrapped up its second year last week with the support of more than 40 organizations and 1,000 people, mainly in their 20s and 30s.

More than four hundred vacant properties in North, South, and West Philadelphia will go up for auction November 16.
The auctions will be held at the Philadelphia Housing Authority's finance office building in the Greater Grays Ferry development.
The available properties range from lots to rowhouses and multiunit buildings, and will be offered individually as well as in groups of up to 25.

The Mummers are an institution in Philadelphia. And prostitution may be the oldest profession. Now the two are tangled after a raid in South Philly Tuesday night. Eleven people were arrested and charged with prostitution and two club members were arrested on liquor charges at the Downtowners Fancy Brigade clubhouse.

Traffic lanes on Market Street and JFK Boulevard have been reduced from four lanes to three for the next two weeks to test if the streets can be more pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly.
The curbside lane on the north side of Market and the curbside lane on the south side of JFK will be closed between 15th and 20th streets.
The test began Saturday and continues through Oct. 23.

City Employers Facing Paid Sick Days |

A bill requiring all city employers to provide paid sick leave was vetoed by Mayor Nutter in June, but a different plan received City Council committee approval this week.
The bill, which would require the city and employers with city contracts, funding or leases, to provide up to seven earned sick days a year and would be a part of the living-wage and benefits law.

Higher tolls have meant less traffic on four Delaware River bridges linking Philadelphia and South Jersey.
Since tolls increased by $1, traffic has been down about 4 percent on the Ben Franklin, Walt Whitman, Commodore Barry, and Betsy Ross Bridges.
Bridge traffic is at the lowest level in more than a decade, projected to dip to 50 million vehicles this year. The peak was 55 million in 2007.

The iconic and legendary former CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs, has passed away today at age 56. He has been fighting cancer and other health issues the past few years. Philadelphia Police Officer Deona Carter's services will likely cost city taxpayers a half-million dollars this year.
About $75,000 in salary and overtime - plus the $425,000 that city attorneys yesterday agreed to pay to settle three federal lawsuits filed by people who say that Carter assaulted or wrongly arrested them.
