Charges Dropped in Mentally Disabled Kidnapping, Bucknell Inflated SAT Scores, Trenton Gun Buyback

The Philadelphia prosecutors involved in the case of kidnapped mentally disabled adults will drop its charges leaving it up to federal prosecutors to pursue charges. Linda Weston, her daughter and two others will now face charges of hate crimes and two murder counts. Five disabled adults were rescued from Weston’s locked Philadelphia basement where they had been beaten and starved, allegedly so Weston could steal their disability checks.

Baby Boom Children's TV Host Sally Starr Dies, Residents Dispute SEPTA, Tax Hikes in Suburbs

Sally Starr, the popular children's TV host of the 1950's and 60's passed away Sunday. She rode into our living rooms on a silver saddle atop a golden palomino and delivered Popeye, Clutch Cargo and the Three Stooges to millions of baby boomers. She died two days after her 90th birthday in a convalescent home in Berlin, NJ. Sally Starr had married twice and had no children.

Sally Starr passed away Sunday. "Our Gal Sal" started out in country music, but most knew Sally Starr for her daily "Popeye Theatre" which aired for 25 years on Channel 6, ending in 1971, along with her famous close: “I love ya lots. Love, luck and lollipops.” Sally Starr was 90 years old.

A man was detained this morning after threatening to blow up the Liberty Bell. Park rangers stopped the unidentified male and told them he wanted to blow up the landmark and his two backpacks contained explosives. Police arrived on the scene at 10:45 am and blocked off Market Street between 7th and 8th Streets. The Philadelphia Bomb Squad arrived shortly after to examine the backpacks. An 11-year-old Camden girl who was purposefully shot in the face by her father Thursday night may be paralyzed after the incident. The shooting occurred around 9:30 pm in a rowhouse on the 1300 block of Thurman Street in the Whitman Park section of Camden. The girl's father, Byaer Johnson, 26, was at the residence to visit the her when he pulled out the gun and placed it on the floor. One day after Mayor Michael Nutter's office agreed to add $10,000 to the reward for the arrest and conviction of the abductors who took the 5-year-old Nailla Robinson from her kindergarten class at Bryant Elementary in West Philadelphia, other groups have stepped up to raise the reward to $75,000. The admitted killer of CHOP Pediatrician Melissa Ketunuti showed no signs of violent behavior prior to the murderous rage that left the young doctor dead and on fire in her basement. Jason Smith, according to friends and neighbors, was a responsible family man who was helpful and generous and showed no signs of a violent temper. He now faces murder charges.

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation crews have been out since yesterday spraying salt solution on the roadways to help prevent any snow accumulation from bonding to the asphalt. PennDOT's new 8,000 gallon brine tanker, which can cover three lanes at one shot, has been on the highway in Montgomery County.

A video has surfaced showing a naked man with his boxers on his head climbing on the front of a SEPTA bus. The incident occurred under the El in Kensington on a Route 3 SEPTA bus near Kensington Avenue and Tioga Street. The video shows the man climbing back down off the bike rack on the front of the bus. CHOP Doctor Murderer Faces Multiple charges, Nutter Adds $10k to Reward, Outdoor Show Postponed

A suspect has been charged with the murder of CHOP Dr. Melissa Ketunuti. 36 year old Jason Smith of Levittown, an exterminator who had an appointment and was let into the home by the victim admitted to getting into an argument with Dr. Ketunuti. According to Philadelphia Police, Smith struck the victim, then strangled her and set her on fire. The 36 year old Bucks County man is being charged with murder, abuse of a corpse, arson and risking catastrophe.
