A bill proposed in the New Jersey State Senate would permit police officers responding to a car accident to confiscate the cell phones of the drivers involved. The bill would also increase the penalty for sending text messages while driving. According to the bill, under current New Jersey law the penalty for driving while illegally using a cell phone is a $100 fine.

The campus of Princeton University was evacuated Tuesday morning after university officials say a bomb threat was called in to the campus to multiple unspecified campus buildings. A statement from the Princeton Police Department stated that in the interest of public safety, the bomb threat is being handled as credible. The home of Griffin Campbell was searched by detectives yesterday and came away with a box of evidence. Campbell is the contractor in charge of the demolition of the collapsed building in Philadelphia. His attorney says Campbell has never had an accident on a demolition job site, the excavating equipment was to be used for clean-up, not demolition, and that OSHA, the City and the Salvation Army inspected the site during demolition.

Eight residents were displaced after a partial building collapse on South Street Monday night. The incident happened along the 800 block of South Street in Bella Vista. There are no reported injuries. It is unclear if the building collapse is weather-related at this time.

New Jersey State Police say two men are facing charges, including allegedly operating a drug manufacturing facility in Atlantic County. An off duty New Jersey police officer accused of shooting and killing a man on Interstate-97 in Maryland has been arrested there. Authorities say 40-year-old Joseph Walker is from Eastampton, Burlington County and is an officer with the Hudson County Prosecutor’s office. Walker allegedly shot 36-year-old Joseph Harvey after a dispute while both were driving on the highway.

Merchandise for the 2013 U.S. Open is now available at the on-site only store. The 24,000 square foot Merchandise Pavilion is at Merion Golf Course adjacent to the 16th tee. The death toll is six in the Philadelphia building collapse. That was the word from Mayor Michael yesterday after the Salvation Army Thrift Shop building at 22nd and Market collapsed without warning. One man and five women were killed. Fourteen survivors have been pulled from the rubble. The investigation into the cause of the collapse is continuing.
