New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy wrote to President Joe Biden to say that the Garden State is ready to accept Afghan refugees and Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) holders. "These brave individuals and families - many of whom have worked to assist our military or put their own lives on the line in support of human rights and American initiatives - must not be left behind," Murphy wrote. Biden says that the airlift mission from the airport in Kabul continues. Afghan allies are being flown out to third-party countries where they are being screened and processed before they will be taken to the US.

A mother and a 16-month-old child were critically injured when they were struck by a vehicle in Bucks County on Saturday night, 8/21. It happened about 8 p.m. on Route 13 in Bristol Borough. The two were hit by a vehicle traveling southbound. The vehicle was then rear-ended by a second southbound vehicle. Both drivers remained at the scene and are cooperating. Both victims were taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital. The child was then transferred to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children. They are listed in critical condition.

A teenage boy was shot and killed at a Willingboro, Burlington County, NJ gas station on Saturday afternoon, 8/21. It happened around 3 p.m. at the Phillips 66 gas station on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. 14-year-old Jesse Everett pulled up to the pumps in a stolen vehicle. Two others were also in the vehicle, but were uninjured. Soon after, a second vehicle pulled into the gas station. A man exited the passenger side of the car. He approached Everett and shot him in the head. Everett was taken to Virtua Willingboro Hospital then airlifted to Cooper Medical Center in Camden. He was pronounced dead at 5:30 p.m. Authorities do not believe this was a random act. No arrests have been made. The investigation in ongoing.
