A New Jersey man charged with kidnapping his son and prompting a multi-state Amber Alert last Friday, 7/8, is now charged with the murder of the boy's mother. 27-year-old Tyler Rios of Highland Park abducted 2-year-old Sebastian Rios and 24-year-old Yasemin Uyar from their home in Rahway. Sebastian didn't show up for daycare and Uyar didn't arrive at work prompting authorities to issue the alert. Sebastian was found safe on Saturday morning, 7/10, at a relative's home in Monterey, Tennessee. Rios was placed in custody there. Uyar was still missing. Her body was found later on Saturday in a wooded area nearby. Rios is in Tennessee awaiting extradition. He was on probation and had an active order of protection against him.

School District of Philadelphia officials announced on Thursday, 7/15, that all students and staff will be required to wear masks indoors when classes resume in-person this fall. The CDC says it's safe for fully vaccinated people to go without masks indoors, but that those unvaccinated individuals should continue to wear them. Since vaccines are not yet approved for children under 12, the District will continue its mask requirement for all. Officials also announced that air and surface purifiers will be installed in every single classroom. The new technology removes 99.9% of airborne COVID-19 viruses.

Philadelphia Archbishop Nelson Perez, along with the bishops of Pennsylvania's other dioceses, announced on Thursday, 7/15, that they will reinstate the weekly obligation to attend Mass starting Sunday, August 15. The obligation was lifted in March 2020 due to the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic and the state's restrictions on gatherings. Many Catholic parishes turned to virtual services and streaming Mass early on and people have been going back in-person as gathering limits were lifted. "As many aspects of life are now returning to normalcy, each Catholic Bishop in Pennsylvania will reinstate the obligation to attend Mass in person on Sundays and Holy Days beginning on Sunday, August 15, 2021, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary," the statement read. "Now, with the impact of the pandemic considerably reduced, it is again possible for the faithful to assemble for the Eucharist. It is time to lift the dispensation from the obligation," Perez said. It does not apply to those who are sick, have health risks or anxiety, or are caretakers.
