Philly Turns Away Patriot Front Marchers; Deadly Arson Fire; Dye Pack Explodes on Robber

A group described as white supremacists marched through Center City Philadelphia on Saturday night, 7/3, before they were chased away by Philadelphia citizens. They were members of the Texas-based group Patriot Front. The 150-200 people wore khaki pants, blue shirts, white cowl-masks, and tan hats. They carried plastic shields, American flags, and Patriot Front flags. They started at the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and marched to Penn's Landing. They made their way past City Hall along the way. They chanted things like "The election was stolen" and "Take America Back." Onlookers and pedestrians started to yell at them and demanded they leave Philadelphia. The group had staged several rental trucks near Penn's Landing to pick the marchers. Police say that someone in the group set off a smoke bomb so they could retreat to the trucks. Philadelphia Police did pull over the trucks for safety reasons. There were no arrests. Patriot Front was responsible for the defacing of a George Floyd mural in North Philadelphia in June. They were also responsible for defacing two George Floyd statues in Newark, NJ and Brooklyn, NY.

"They started engaging with citizens of Philadelphia, who were none too happy about what they were saying. These males felt threatened, and, at one point, somebody in their crowd threw a type of smoke bomb to cover their retreat, and they literally ran away from the people of Philadelphia," said Philadelphia Police Officer Michael Crum.





One man was killed and another person injured in an arson fire in South Philadelphia early Saturday morning, 7/3. Firefighters responded around 5:30 a.m. to the 200 block of Tree Street. Rescuers discovered the body of a man inside the home. A 90-year-old woman was saved from next door. She had burns to her hands but is in stable condition. The fire marshal ruled it an arson and is investigating.

Surveillance video shows a red dye pack exploding moments after a robber left a Newark, NJ, bank with stolen cash. It happened around 10 a.m. Saturday, 7/3, at the Capitol One bank on Springfield Ave. The suspect entered the bank and gave the teller a note. It read, "I have a gun give me all the money from the register please, and no one will get hurt." He left the bank with $2,300 in cash. The teller was able to slip a dye pack in with the money. The video shows the suspect walking away from the bank. As he starts to cross the street, the dye red exploded. He discarded the pack and fled.
