21-year-old Mason Hall of Norristown admitted today, 6/29, to sexually assaulting a female at gunpoint at a Montgomery County park in August 2017. Hall pled guilty to rape, along with charges of possession of an instrument of a crime, reckless endangerment, unlawful restraint, and related offenses. It happened the morning of August 1, 2017 at Norristown Farm Park. The 19-year-old victim was running on the trail when the then 17-year-old Hall approached her from behind wearing all black. He had a gun and forced her off the trail to a secluded clearing where he assaulted her. Police searched the park but did not find the suspect. They did have the suspect's DNA, but it did not match any law enforcement databases. They were able to narrow down the suspect list by searching private DNA databases. It wasn't until Hall was later arrested for vandalism that investigators identified him as the rape suspect. Hall had smashed a car taillight with a hammer and cut his hand in the process. Prosecutors matched the blood from the hammer to the DNA found at the scene of the assault. Hall will be sentenced in September. He faces 44 years in prison.
