Dirt Bike Rider Shot and Killed in Port Richmond; 16yo Gets Shot in Crowd; Fuel Spill in Delco

A man was shot and killed on Saturday night, 6/12, in the middle of a large gathering of dirt bikes in Port Richmond. It happened around 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Aramingo Avenue and East Butler Street in Port Richmond. A 21-year-old man riding on a dirt bike was shot in the head by another man riding on a motorcycle. A second man then stole the shooting victim's dirt bike. The suspects fled the scene. Medics pronounced the man dead at the scene. On Thursday, 6/10, Philadelphia City Council updated the traffic code to include dirt bikes and dune buggies on the list of vehicles illegal to operate on the street and subject to confiscation. That hasn't stopped large groups of off-road vehicles from roaming around the city.

UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Angel Rodriguez.

A 16-year-old girl was shot and injured after someone shot into a crowd in North Philadelphia on Sunday afternoon, 6/13. It happened around 1 p.m. on the 6500 block of North Broad Street in Oak Lane. A large group of people had surrounded two females that were fighting. Someone sprayed mace into the crowd. The boyfriend of one of the females then fired a shot into the group of people. The 16-year-old girl was struck once in the thigh. She was taken to Einstein Medical Center in stable condition. No arrests have been made.

Several thousand gallons of fuel spilled into Delaware County waterways after a gasoline leak at a local gas station overnight Saturday, 6/12. It happened at the Gas-n-Go at the corner of Coebourn Boulevard and Edgemont Avenue in Brookhaven. Several agencies were on the scene dealing with the situation. Officials believe that there was a overfilling problem when the gas station received a shipment the night before. They do not know if the problem was with the tank in the ground or the tanker truck delivering the gas. Around 4,700 gallons of gas was spilled into the groundwater, a stormwater retention pond behind Coebourn Elementary School, and a small tributary of Chester Creek. Some dead animals have been found in the creek and pond. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection is busy cleaning up the spill. It will take some time to complete the removal and remediation of the contaminated ground soil. Pets and children should stay away from the area.
