| Philly Set to Reopen on June 11; Philadelphia Marathon Returns; GIANT Building 4 Philly Groceries |

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney announced on Tuesday, 5/11, that the City of Philadelphia will be lifting all coronavirus COVID-19 restrictions on June 11. Masks must still be worn indoors and in crowded settings. Public officials continue to encourage all residents to get vaccinated. "We are not yet declaring victory because cases and hospitalizations can rise again at any point if we're not diligent. I urge everyone to be smart, to continue wearing masks around others, and most importantly, to join the more than half a million fellow Philadelphians who already got their vaccine," Philadelphia Health Commissioner Dr. Thomas Farley said.
On May 21, some of the 'Safer-at-Home' restrictions will be loosened. On that date, there will no longer be capacity limits for retail stores, offices, museums, and libraries. Theaters and venues with fixed seating such as stadiums will be capped at 50% with 3-feet social distancing. No maximum limit for outdoor catered events, just 50% capacity. Seat backs can be placed within 3 feet for indoor dining. Alcohol can be purchased without food. Last week, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announced that Pennsylvania would lift all restrictions on May 31, but local municipalities may keep tighter restrictions.

The Philadelphia Marathon is expected to return this November. Officials announced tentative dates of November 19-21, 2021. Those dates could change depending on the pandemic. This year's race will only be accepting 50% of the usual participants. If the race gets canceled, those who signed up will get the chance to defer their registration or get a partial refund. Registration opens May 13.
"While canceling the 2020 Philadelphia Marathon Weekend was necessary, it was still a difficult announcement to make," said Mayor Jim Kenney. "Today, we're filled with hope as vaccine distribution continues to increase, making announcements like today's possible. We are excited as we plan for the return of an iconic Philadelphia event, and we're committed to creating the safest environment for our staff, athletes, volunteers, and partners. Safety is our top priority, and we continue to work closely with public health experts to plan and execute a safe, successful marathon weekend."

The GIANT Company announced on Monday, 5/10, that it will be building four new grocery stores in Philadelphia over the next two years. The Carlisle, Pennsylvania company just opened a 65,000 sq ft urban flagship store in Center City along the Schuylkill River at 23rd and Arch. The new stores include a 40,000 sq ft GIANT Heirloom Market at the Fashion District at 8th and Market, a 46,000 sq ft grocery store at Columbus Boulevard and Reed Street in South Philadelphia, a 50,000 sq ft grocery store at North Broad and Spring Garden, and a 40,000 sq ft grocery store at South Broad Street and Washington Avenue. The company will be hiring 700 new employees for these stores.

The City of Philadelphia is lifting all capacity restrictions on June 11. Stadiums can start to operate at 50% capacity on May 21. That is just in time for the first round of the NBA Playoffs. The Philadelphia 76ers have announced that they will be selling 10,000 tickets for first round games. After June 11, Dr. Thomas Farley said, "They will be allowed to sell as many tickets as they want." He also said that the city will not be placing any restrictions on allowing tailgating. That may still be up to the lot owner. Currently, the Philadelphia Phillies can have 11,000 fans and the Sixers can have 4,000.
