New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced on Monday, 5/3, that the state will be easing some capacity restrictions later this month. All of the new guidelines will still require people to maintain social distancing and wear masks. On May 7, patrons will be allowed to sit at the bar. Buffets will be allowed to reopen as well. Restrictions that were announced last week set for May 10 will now go into effect this Friday, 5/7, including dance floors for catered events and larger capacities for social gatherings. On May 19, the capacity limit on outdoor gatherings, indoor dining, and many businesses will be lifted. "All attendees or groups of attendees will be required to keep social distances of at least six feet. Current mask requirements will remain in place."

He also announced "Operation Jersey Shore." It will be a combination of efforts geared towards pushing the vaccination efforts and outreach. Murphy says, "We will partner with our faith leaders for 'Grateful for the Shot,' an effort that will make it possible for congregants to go directly from religious services to vaccination sites." Murphy also said, "We're launching our "Shot and a Beer" program to encourage eligible New Jerseyans ages 21+ to get vaccinated. Any New Jerseyan who gets their first vaccine dose in the month of May and takes their vaccination card to a participating brewery will receive a free beer."

Wildwood firefighters fought a boat fire in Otten's Harbor on Saturday morning, 5/1, that completely engulfed the vessel and sent one man to the hospital with serious burns. It happened around 10:30 a.m. near the 400 block of Montgomery Avenue in Wildwood. The 40ft boat broke from it's moorings and drifted slowly through the harbor while still on fire. It eventually came to rest against the sea wall. Crews fought the blaze from land and sea. 57-year-old Edward Tinsman of Wildwood was air-lifted to Jefferson University Hospital Burn Center in Philadelphia in serious condition. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A teen was struck and killed by a car in Northeast Philadelphia's Somerton section on Sunday night, 5/2. It happened just before 11 p.m. on Bustleton Avenue, near Trevose Road. The 18-year-old young woman was crossing the street when she was hit. The driver did stay at the scene. No word on possible charges.
