President Joe Biden was at Philadelphia's 30 Street Station on Friday afternoon, 4/30, to help celebrate Amtrak's 50th Anniversary. 'Amtrak Joe' rode over two million miles on the rail line between Wilmington, DE and Washington, DC during his time as senator and vice president. He spoke of how those trips made it possible for him to be there for family. Biden spoke about modernizing our nation's rail system including installing high speed lines to connect cities across the country. He said this would create jobs and facilitate jobs, reduce emissions, and help smaller cities. Rail is one part of his infrastructure bill.

A man in a U-Haul stole a woman's purse and led police on a destructive chase through Kensington on Thursday night, 4/30. It started at the The International Bar on the corner of North Front Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue. The driver reached over the wooden rail of the outdoor dining structure of the restaurant and took the purse of a female diner. In his attempt to get away, he smashed the structure with the truck and injured a 62-year-old man. He ran through a 26-year-old man on a motorcycle who tried to stop the truck. Police then chased the driver and caught up with him at 2nd and Birch Streets. Despite being trapped, the 43-year-old suspect continued to try to ram his through parked cars and police vehicles to get away. He almost hit a few officers on foot. He is charged with theft, reckless driving, fleeing the scene of an accident, reckless endangerment and related offenses.

"So what started as a theft of a purse, led to a hit-and-run auto accident, reckless endangerment and aggravated assault," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said. "Now, inside of that U-Haul police did find the wallet and possible purse and cell phone of the 36-year-old female. She was able to describe it to us and it appears that her purse cell phone and other belongings are inside the U-Haul. But we’re holding that as part of the crime scene and our East Detectives are going to investigate this."

A West Philadelphia funeral home will take custody of the remains of two young girls killed in the 1985 bombing of the MOVE house on Osage Ave. Terry Funeral Home is picking up the bones from anthropology Professor Alan Mann at his home in New Jersey. 12-year-old Delisha Africa and 14-year-old Tree Africa were killed when the City of Philadelphia dropped a bomb on the roof of the group's home. 11 members of the group were killed, including 5 children. 65 homes were destroyed. At the time, the City asked Mann, who worked at the University of Pennsylvania, to help analyze and identify the remains. In 2000, Mann retired from Penn and went to Princeton, taking the bones with him. The bones have been used in classes on forensics and anthropology. Members of MOVE were unaware of the remains existence and use until last week and have demanded their return. They protested outside the Penn Museum on Wednesday.

Penn said in a statement, "It is an ethical imperative to show the utmost respect to family survivors. Informed consent must be given by the person before death or by the family afterwards. Regretfully, this did not happen in this case - and it was a serious error in judgment to use these remains in a class of any kind, especially given the extreme emotional distress in our community surrounding the 1985 bombing of the MOVE house."
