Authorities believe that the human remains found on Wednesday, 4/21, are those of missing Amish teenager Linda Stoltzfoos. Lancaster County District Attorney Heather Adams said that the coroner had not yet made a positive forensic identification at a press conference on Thursday, 4/22. The body was buried with a dress, bonnet, and shoes similar to how Stoltzfoos was dressed when she went missing on June 21, 2020. The 18-year-old was last seen walking home from church in the Bird-in-Hand area. 35-year-old Justo Smoker of Paradise was charged with kidnapping and misdemeanor false imprisonment in July 2020 and charged with homicide in December 2020. "Investigators have reason to believe that Smoker originally killed Linda within hours of her kidnapping on June 21 and buried her behind the business on Harvest Drive in Ronks where Linda's stockings and bra had previously been discovered and where Smoker's car had been seen," Adams said. An autopsy will be performed on Friday, 4/23.

As the investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment involving the Ocean City Beach Patrol is underway, Mayor Jay Gillian announced he his taking some immediate actions. The mayor's aide, Michael Allegretto, will oversee beach patrol operations. Allegretto will be tasked with hiring an independent contractor to run day-to-day operations. He will also find a lawyer to make sure that the city's policies are enforced. "His charge will be to retain an experienced labor attorney with a strong background in employment investigations to ensure the city's policies and procedures are sufficient, correctly implemented and properly communicated; and to engage an independent contractor to oversee the day-to-day operations of the patrol while the investigation is conducted," said Gillian. These actions and investigation come after dozens of allegations of harassment were made against members of the beach patrol. They were posted on an anonymous Instagram account @OCBP_predators. The accusers include other members of the patrol and members of the public.

A Philadelphia police detective has been arrested following a Philadelphia Police Department Internal Affairs Division investigation into an off-duty incident involving a gun last December. Detective Robert Redanauer is charged with simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, possessing instruments of crime, and making terroristic threats. Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw has suspended Redanauer 30 days with the intent to dismiss. It happened on December 27, 2020. Redanauer was off-duty at the time. He is accused of taking a silver semi-automatic handgun from a dresser and pointing it at two people. He threatened to shoot one of them. One of the victims was able to leave the home and call 911. The other victim retreated to another bedroom. Redanauer left the building and drove away. The location of the incident was not revealed.

"In order for police officers to effectively do their jobs, it is imperative that they are held to a higher standard – both on and off-duty" said Outlaw in a statement. "The charges filed against Detective Redanauer are serious in nature, and represent intolerable behavior. When officers behave in a way that does not honor their oath to protect others from harm, and in fact, create harm, it is made clear that the individual has no place within our ranks and must be removed."
