1 Killed, 1 Injured Wawa Shooting in Lehigh County; Bail Increase ex-Cop; Arrest Beating Death

One person was killed and another was injured before the gunman killed himself outside a Wawa in Lehigh County on Wednesday morning, 4/21. It started just before 5 a.m. in Upper Macungie Township. The gunman, identified as 45-year-old Za Uk Lian of South Whitehall Township, shot at a woman's car on Route 22 near the intersection of Route 309 and Cedar Crest Boulevard. The woman did not know her vehicle had been shot until she pulled in to the Wawa at 7572 Schantz Rd. She was not injured. Coincidentally, Lian then pulled in to the same Wawa. He shot at a man inside a Jeep. That man was struck and injured. He then shot a truck driver, 31-year-old Ramon Ramirez of Allentown, who was pumping gas. Ramirez was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Za Uk Lian then ran about a Â¼ mile south on Route 100 and shot himself in the hand and chest taking his own life. Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin said the shootings appeared to be "indiscriminate and unrelated." The investigation is ongoing.

Ramirez was a married father of three working for A. Duie Pyle trucking company.

"There was an employee of Wawa who was taking out trash and heard the gunshots. He ushered two prospective customers from the parking lot into the Wawa and he alerted the employees in the Wawa to shelter in place and he locked the doors. So all credit to him," Martin said.

Wawa released the following incident, "At Wawa, the safety and security of our associates and customers is paramount. We are truly grateful for the actions of one of our associates who acted swiftly to protect customers and fellow associates. We are also thankful for the work of local law enforcement and are fully cooperating with them as they conduct their investigation. Right now, we are focused on the wellbeing of our store teams and defer all further questions regarding the incident to local law enforcement."

Philadelphia Police have made in arrest in the beating death of a man found unresponsive outside the Pennsylvania Convention Center on Tuesday morning, 4/20. 59-year-old Juan Guerra is charged with the murder of 49-year-old Johnathan Muldrow. Officers were performing a wellness check on the homeless population on the on the 100 block of North 13th Street around 7:30 a.m. when they found Muldrow unresponsive and suffering trauma to his face. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a medic. It is believed he was assaulted with a pipe that was found nearby. Surveillance footage show that attack happening at 2:18 a.m. Guerra was arrested on the 1200 block of Market Street.

Bail has been increased for a retired Bucks County police officer accused of sexually abusing teenage boys over decades. Former Warminster Township Police Officer James Carey was first arrested on April 7. He was able to post the original 10% of $100,000 bail that day. He is charged with 122 counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault and other related charges. The judge at Wednesday's, 4/21, hearing say that the bail set by the magistrate was â€œwoefully inadequate.â€ It has been raised to $250,000 cash bail. It is not clear if he'll be able to post that straight cash bail. Carey will also have to surrender his passport and police credentials.
