Devon Horse Show Canceled This Year; 10yo Boy Was Cut Not Shot; Delaware River Bridges' Tolls Go Up

The Devon Horse Show and Country Fair (DHSCF) announced that it canceled this year's event for the second straight year due to the ongoing coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. This year's event was scheduled to run May 27 - June 6. The annual Devon Horse Show is a U.S. Equestrian Federation (USEF) sanctioned show and is required to follow all of their guidelines. DHSCF says that it was told on April 5 to expect updated USEF guidelines in "mid-May." In a statement, organizers said, "This time frame does not provide sufficient time to adequately plan and prepare for a show of the DHSCF's size and caliber. In fairness to the competitors, sponsors, ticket holders, vendors, volunteers and all others involved, the DHSCF believes that the decision to cancel is the best under the circumstances."

Philadelphia Police are investigating after a 10-year-old boy was injured on Saturday night, 4/10, in North Philadelphia. It happened before 10:30 p.m. on the 1300 block of W. York Street. The boy had an injury to his arm and stomach. He was taken to Temple University Hospital and transferred to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. Police initially thought that it had been a graze wound from a gunshot, but physicians say that the cuts were not the results of gunfire. Police did recover a gun near the scene and are determining if it is related. Witnesses did hear a bang, perhaps fireworks, adding to the idea that is could have been a shooting. Investigators are trying to determine how the boy was injured. No one has been arrested. The boy is in stable condition and is expected to by OK.

Tolls on eight Delaware River bridges went up on Sunday, April 11. The bridges are controlled by the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission. E-ZPass customers will see an increase of $.25 from $1 to $1.25. Cash payments will increase from $2 to $3. This is the first time in 10 years that the toll has increased on these bridges.
