Man Rams in U.S. Capitol Officers, 1 Dead; CDC Travel, Easter Guidelines; MLB Moves All-Star Game

A man drove a car into a barricade on the north side of the U.S. Capitol on Friday afternoon, 4/2, striking two U.S. Capitol officers, killing one. It happened just after 1 p.m. on the Senate side of the building. The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Noah Green of Indiana with ties to Virginia, rammed a blue sedan in the barricade hitting two officers. He then exited the vehicle with a knife and ran towards the officers. At least one of them drew their weapons and shot Green. The two officers were taken to the hospital. Officer William "Billy" Evan, an 18-year veteran, succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital. The other officer is in stable condition. Green was also transported to the hospital. He was pronounced dead around 1:30 p.m. Officials do not believe there is a connection to terrorism or that there is an ongoing threat. The lockdown was eventually lifted. President Joe Biden ordered White House flags to be flown at half-staff. Most of the Senators and Congress members were not at the Capitol today as they are not in session.

Investigators do not yet know an exact motive for the attack. Noah Green's social media profiles indicate he is a 'Follower of Farrakhan,' a member of the Nation of Islam. He also recently wrote about having a 'tough' time and espoused about the government afflicting him.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that fully vaccinated people can now travel with in the U.S. without getting tested for coronavirus COVID-19 beforehand and without having to quarantine afterward. For international travel, vaccinated people do not need to get a test before travel, but some destination countries may require it. Vaccinated people should still get a negative COVID-19 test before boarding a flight to the U.S. and be tested 3 to 5 days after returning. They do not need to quarantine. People should still wear a mask, socially distance, and avoid crowds.

The CDC also released guidance for celebrating Easter this Sunday, 4/4. Fully vaccinated people can safely gather for Easter, both indoors and without masks. However, individuals that aren't fully vaccinated should still only have dinner with members of their own household or have it outside with others while 6 feet apart.

Sports
Major League Baseball has made the decision to move this year's All-Star Game from Atlanta's Truist Park in response to a new voting rights law passed in Georgia. The game was scheduled for July 13. That also includes the Futures Game on July 11 and the Home Run Derby on July 12. The MLB Amateur Draft scheduled for the same dates will also be moved from Atlanta. A new location has not yet been announced. The game will be played in Los Angeles in 2022 after being canceled in 2020. It will be held in Philadelphia in 2026 as part of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

Fair access to voting continues to have our game's unwavering support.

"We will continue with our plans to celebrate the memory of Hank Aaron during this season's All-Star festivities. In addition, MLB's planned investments to support local communities in Atlanta as part of our All-Star Legacy Projects will move forward.
