Lancaster Co Mother Killed in North Carolina Road Rage; Charges in NM Murders; Delco Council Swinger

A mother of six children from Lancaster County, PA, was shot and killed during a road rage incident on I-95 in North Carolina on Thursday morning, 3/25. It happened just before noon in the southbound lanes of I-95 just north of Lumberton, Robeson County, near the South Carolina border. 47-year-old Julie Eberly of Manheim, Pennsylvania was headed on vacation with her husband Ryan Eberly. At one point, their vehicle came close to the suspect's vehicle during a merge into a lane. The suspect's vehicle then pulled up next to the Eberly's car and fired multiple shots at their car. Julie was struck by one shot that came through the passenger door. She was taken to the hospital where she later died. Ryan was not hurt. The suspects sped off and exited the highway. Police are still looking for the shooter.

"This was an innocent family from Pennsylvania headed to the beach for a vacation," Sheriff Burnis Wilkins wrote in a statement. "Thankfully they had left their six children at home with grandparents, but now these kids have to live with the thought of their mother being murdered in such a cowardly and senseless way. My heart goes out to this family and I ask that everyone reading this stop and pray for this entire family."

Sean Lannon, the man being held for the beating death of a New Jersey man and who led authorities on a multi-state manhunt, has now been charged with three murders in New Mexico. His ex-wife, her two friends, and a man from Albuquerque were found dead in a vehicle in a parking garage at the Albuquerque airport earlier this month. Last week, authorities searched the home in Grant, NM, about 80 miles west of Albuquerque, that Lannon shared with his ex-wife and their three kids. He has been charged in the death of Jennifer Lannon, Matthew Miller, and Jesten Mata. Charges in the death of Randal Apostalon have not yet been filed. Lannon has previously been charged in the death of Michael Dabkowski. U.S. Marshals caught him in St. Louis. He had brought his three young children from NM to NJ in early March and left them with his parents. Lannon has since claimed that he killed 11 more people in New Mexico, but authorities have not confirmed any more deaths.

A council member of a Delaware County borough is facing calls to resign after an anonymous letter to the council president revealed some salacious parts of his personal life. The Parkside Borough council meeting on Wednesday night, 3/24, got heated. Council President Shirley Purcival and several other council members want Democratic Councilman Scott Sidlow to resign. Sidlow is accused of posting on a website for swingers and smoking pot. Sidlow does not deny that he and his wife have an online profile looking to meet another couple. He also does not deny smoking pot. Swinging is not illegal. Possession of small amounts of marijuana is a civil penalty in Delaware County. "Councilman Sidlow's admission of illegal drug use within his home, where two children also reside, is unconscionable, a serious breach of public trust and a violation of his oath of office as well as the crimes code of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania," Purcival said

"I am not embarrassed about being a swinger. I'm not embarrassed about smoking pot. I'm not embarrassed about anything," Sidlow told Purcival. "You thought you could embarrass me into resignation and you did not. You failed and I am standing up for myself." He has two children at home ages 11 and 14. "I'm not going to put them in any kind of compromising position. My children didn't know anything about smoking marijuana or about being a swinger until this week when Shirley Purcival brought it into my family's life," Sidlow said. The council voted 4-2 saying he should resign, but that is not final. Parkside Borough Mayor Thomas Deitman also thinks he should resign. The residents can have their say at the ballot box in May.
