An ATV rider caught on video in a violent road rage encounter with a regular motorist earlier this week has been taken into custody by Philadelphia Police. It happened at 6 p.m. Tuesday, 3/9, on Broad Street, just south of Washington Ave. A group of ATV riders and bikes apparently stopped short in traffic, which caused the driver of an SUV to strike one of the dirt bikes. The driver of the SUV got out of his vehicle to check on the rider. The rider became hostile, demanded payment, and began to assault the 25-year-old SUV driver. The video shows the rider attacking the man as he tried to get back into the SUV. It then shows the rider get a gun from an unseen person, but then seemingly have second thoughts about shooting. The video also shows the rider throwing bricks and trash at the SUV causing broken windows and other damage. The group of riders eventually rode off. The man suffered minor injuries. The suspect's identity has not been released. Riding off-road vehicles on city streets is illegal, but authorities have not been able to contain the often dangerous problem.
UPDATE: 27-year-old Gregory Stevens is charged with aggravated assault, harassment, criminal mischief and related counts. He was out on parole from a 2014 robbery conviction and was not allowed to have a gun. Stevens was also wanted in a February 22 armed robbery and shooting of a pharmacist on the 3900 block of Kensington Avenue. He demanded 'Oxys' from the pharmacist and then got into a struggle with the man. The pharmacist was shot in the chest. Stevens is charged with attempted murder, robbery, aggravated assault and other counts for that incident.
The Mayor's office released this statement:
"The safety of pedestrians and motorists is paramount, and our administration takes this issue very seriously. Dirt bikes and ATVs are illegal to operate on Philadelphia streets. Operators can be ticketed, and vehicles confiscated. Anyone who observes this type of activity, or has information regarding planned 'ride-outs,' is encouraged to contact the Philadelphia Police Department by calling or texting 215-686-TIPS. Police have been successful in confiscating a significant number of dirt bikes, ATVs, and scooters as part of their efforts to cut down on this illegal activity and will continue to do so."

Philadelphia Police are searching for a group of people wanted for an attack and robbery in Center City last month. It happened at 6:30 p.m. on February 24 on the 1200 block of Filbert Street. The 67-year-old male victim was walking down the street talking on the phone when an unknown Black male grabbed his iPhone out of his hand from behind. The victim tried to get his phone back from the suspect. As he was chasing the victim around a car, a group of unknown Black males and females joined in. They pushed him to the ground and hit him with a belt, stick and a brick. He suffered minor injuries to his hands and knees. The group made off with his iPhone 11. Several World War II era munitions have been found this week in a backyard in Cape May, NJ, forcing multiple evacuations as authorities disposed of the unexploded ordinances. Two explosives were found on Wednesday and another on Thursday as landscape workers did work in the yard on Elmira Street. Kyle Anderson bought the property last October. "When I bought the house back in October, the neighbor on the other side had warned me (the former owner) used to bury a lot of stuff. The yard is lumpy and uneven and when the landscapers came, I advised them there will be things buried back there," said Anderson. They'll use a metal detector now to search the rest of the yard. The Atlantic City Bomb Squad removed the devices and detonated them safely on a nearby beach.
