The teenager wanted in connection to the deadly shooting at an East Norriton, Montgomery County, bowling alley on Saturday night, 2/20, turned himself in to authorities on Sunday night, 2/21. 17-year-old Jamel Barnwell of Upper Darby surrendered to police after he was named the primary suspect in the shooting. It happened around 6:45 p.m. at the Our Town Alley, formerly Facenda Whitaker Lanes, located in the 2900 block of Swede Road. Barnwell and three others entered the bowling alley. They got into an altercation with 29-year-old Frank Wade of Philadelphia. Barnwell pulled out a handgun with extended magazine and began shooting. He fired at least 15 times. Wade was shot and killed and four of his family members were were wounded. Barnwell and crew fled the scene. Barnwell faces charges of third degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, possessing an instrument of crime and other related offenses. Police have a boy in custody after two minors were stabbed multiple times on the playground of a Montgomery County elementary school on Monday afternoon, 2/22. It happened around 5:30 p.m. at Oak Park Elementary School on the 500 block of Squirrel Lane in Hatfield Township. The two minor victims were taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital. There is no word on their condition. The suspect had fled the scene but was found and taken into custody. The boy is a minor and his identity will not be released. The North Penn School District says that the incident happened after school and was not connected to any school activity.
Oak Park Elementary statement: "This evening at approximately 5:30 pm, local police were called to Oak Park Elementary School campus due to a report of a stabbing. It was after school hours and not related to any school activity. There were no students in the building at the time, including Extended School Care who had all been picked up by then.
As of the time of this email, we are still learning details as it is an ongoing police investigation and we do not have more information to share except that the suspect is in custody.
Tragic events such as this are always upsetting. I want to assure you that the safety of the Oak Park community is our number one priority. Thank you to our local police and NPSD security who responded swiftly to this evening's event."
Philadelphia police are searching for a man accused of raping a woman in a public bathroom inside the Center City Macy's store. It happened on Sunday, 2/21, between 11:30 a.m. to 11:40 a.m. on the 1300 block of Market Street. "A 55-year-old female who was shopping at the store with her husband, she decided to use the bathroom on the third floor. She went inside the bathroom and went into the stall, the offender jumped over the stall. He dragged her out of one stall into another stall where he then raped her," Philadelphia Police Capt. Mark Burgmann said. Police say that the suspect hid in the bathroom for about 20 minutes waiting for a victim. He had an unusual weapon. "About 12 inches long, sharp sticks being used for cooking, for shish kabobs. He had several of them in his hand and he threatened her with those," he said. After the attack the suspect fled the scene. He got on the Market-Frankford El at 13th Street at at 11:45 a.m. and got off at 52nd Street at 11:54 a.m.
He is described as a Black man in his 20s with a thin build and a unique walk. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie, black pants with white stripes on the left leg, black sneakers with white around the sole, three quarter length jacket with a hood and white writing on the left shoulder. He was also wearing a surgical mask. (see photo below)
UPDATE: The suspect was taken into custody at his Philadelphia home just before 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, 2/24.
