Police have arrested a man who fired shots into the Montgomery County Democratic Committee office last month on Inauguration Day, 1/20, and sent a threatening letter earlier in January. 48-year-old Anthony Nero of Eagleville has been charged with terrorism, terroristic threats, carrying a firearm without a license, and recklessly endangerment. Bail has been set at $50,000. Montgomery County prosecutors say that Nero admitted to sending the e-mail and shooting the office. He said he was under the stress of over losing his family, the COVID-19 shutdown, and the "theft of the election." The letter was sent on January 7, which FBI traced to Nero's home. No one was in the Norristown headquarters when shots were fired through the front window. An official stopped by the office in the afternoon after the Inaguration and found the shattered window. Police discovered three bullet holes and found two rounds inside. A .45 caliber loaded hand gun was found in Nero's car. A preliminary hearing scheduled for March 5.
According to police, the e-mail read, "Just wanted to let your offices know that you should probably beef up security. With this stolen election and Coup d'etat, violence is the only language you bloodsuckers understand. F*** you and your BLM [expletive] along with ANTIFA. We WILL end this insurrection. Again, TRUMP YOU! You f***ing traitors. Random acts of violence are difficult to investigate. Have fun."
A man was shot and killed by police in Lehigh County on Friday afternoon, 2/19, in the basement of his parents' home. It happened around 1:45 p.m. on the 100 block of 14th Street near Sherman Street in Catasauqua. Police responded to an argument between 27-year-old Ryan Shirey and his ex-girlfriend. Shirey's ex-girlfriend, who is caretaker to his mother, called 911. Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin says that Shirey had a revolver. "He was ordered to put the gun down. He did not comply. A Catasauqua officer shot him and unfortunately he is deceased," Martin said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer has been placed on administrative leave. The Lehigh County District Attorney, PA State Police, and Catasauqua Police are on scene. This is an ongoing investigation.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be opening a mass COVID-19 vaccination site at the Pennsylvania Convention Center next month. FEMA expects the center to open on March 3. "The Pennsylvania Convention Center's central location, accessibility by public transportation, logistics capability, large size, and existing city contracts in support of vaccination operations made it a logical choice for the first federally operated site in Pennsylvania," FEMA said. The Type 1 site could inoculate 6,000 people per day. The vaccine doses at the site will be coming directly from the federal government and not from the City of Philadelphia's allocation. Clinical and support staff will be provided by FEMA as well. FEMA is opening similar sites in cities across the county. Details are still being worked out, included who will be eligible and how you can sign up.
The Black Doctors COVID-19 Consortium is holding a 24-hour "Vaxathon" this weekend at the Liacouras Center at Temple University. The clinic started at noon on Friday, 2/19, and lasts until noon on Saturday, 2/20. It is first come, first serve, no appointment necessary. However, you must be in Phase 1A or 1B and live within certain zip codes to be eligible. Those zip codes include many parts of North and West Philadelphia: 19104, 19119, 19121, 19123, 19124, 19126, 19131, 19132, 19138, 19139, 19140, 19141, 19142, 19143, 19144, 19145, 19146, 19150, 19151, and 19153. The lines wrapped around the building on Friday afternoon as people waited in the cold and snow to get their first shots of the Moderna vaccine.

The Philadelphia Eagles have released WR DeSean Jackson. The move will free up $5.8 million in cap space. 34-year-old Jackson returned to the Eagles in 2019, but has been hampered by injuries these past two seasons. Jackson was drafted by Philadelphia in 2008 and played 6 seasons with the Eagles. He is the NFL leader in 60-plus yard touchdowns and 6th in yards per reception making him an all-time deep threat. |
