Health Dept Parts w/ Philly Fighting COVID; Victory Brewing Fire in Kennett; Winter Weather Advisory

The City of Philadelphia announced on Monday, 1/25, that it will no longer be working with the organization Philly Fighting COVID. The group had been providing coronavirus COVID-19 testing for months and most recently pre-registrations and vaccinations. The Department of Public Health decided to end the partnership after PFC changed from a non-profit to a for-profit. "We have recently been made aware of a change in PFC's corporate status that took place without our knowledge, from nonprofit to for-profit. As part of this change, PFC updated its data privacy policy in a way that could allow the organization to sell data collected through PFC's pre-registration site," said a spokesman for the health department. "The City has not been notified of any of these data having been sold. But for PFC to have made these changes without discussion with the City is extremely troubling. As a result of these concerns, along with PFC's unexpected stoppage of testing operations, the Health Department has decided to stop providing vaccine to PFC."

Many residents have already gotten their first dose of a vaccine (either Pfizer or Moderna) through Philly Fighting COVID at the Convention Center and may already have been scheduled to receive a second dose. The health department is working to contact all of those people and will reschedule those second doses with a new clinic.

Chester County fire crews responded to downtown Kennett Square for a fire at a popular brewery with an attached apartment complex. The blaze started at 6:30 p.m. at Victory Brewing on the 600 block of West Cypress Street. There were reports of a loud noise or perhaps an explosion at that time. The Downingtown-based brewery operating several taprooms, including this one in Kennett Square. The building also contains several floors of apartments above the street level brewery. Victory says it was closed today and no employees or customers were on site. No injuries were reported. The Red Cross is helping residents of the building. PECO says that 55 customers are without service.

Statement from Victory Brewing:
"Tonight, around 6:30PM there was an explosion and fire in the 600 block of W Cyprus St in the building where the Victory Brewing Company - Kennett Square taproom is located. Our taproom was closed for business today, so no customers or team members were in the building at the time of the incident. We now have a team on site and are working with the fire and police departments to gather information around this unfortunate incident. We are not aware of any injuries that were uncovered during the initial investigation. We will continue to work with authorities and with the Red Cross to learn more about what occurred this evening and how we can help our neighbors in the building who have been displaced. For now, we are praying for the safety of those involved and want to thank the first responders who quickly arrived on site, safely aided in the evacuation of the building and are working to control the fire."
