| NJ Congresswoman Tests Positive After Riot; Philly Police Detective at Capitol; Chiropractor Murder |

A U.S. Congresswoman from New Jersey has tested positive for coronavirus COVID-19 after having to lockdown with other lawmakers during last Wednesday's, 1/6, breach of the Capitol in Washington D.C. 75-year-old Democratic Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman represents NJ's 12th district including Princeton and Trenton. "I received a positive test result for COVID-19, and am home resting at this time," Coleman said. "While I am experiencing mild, cold-like symptoms, I remain in good spirits and will continue to work on behalf of my constituents." She believes she was exposed when legislators were forced into protective isolation as rioters took over the building. Not everyone was wearing a mask in the room. On Sunday, 1/10, the Capitol's attending physician, Dr. Brian P. Monahan, said that there was a possible COVID-19 exposure to those in the room. Watson Coleman is currently isolating at home. As a Congresswoman, she had already received the first dose of the vaccine.
The Philadelphia Police Department's Internal Affairs Bureau is investigating the activities of a Philadelphia detective at Wednesday's, 1/6, rally and riot in Washington D.C. The city has guidelines for city employees attending political fundraisers or rallys. 51-year-old Jennifer Gugger has been removed from her position in the Recruit Background Investigations Unit. She has been placed on restricted duty. She had worked as a background checker for police recruits which also included monitoring their social media accounts. Her own social media postings last week showed her participation at the rally and contained questionable conspiracy theories.
The Police issued this statement: "We are aware of social media posts that allege that a Philadelphia Police Department detective may have been in attendance at the events on Washington, DC on January 6th. An IAB investigation has been opened to determine if any PPD policies were violated by the detective, and if they participated in any illegal activities while in attendance. The Detective's assignment has been changed pending the outcome of the investigation."
The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #5's statement: "Our detective traveled to Washington, DC this week on her day off and exercised her First Amendment rights to attend an event. We believe she has done nothing wrong and we await the results of a complete, internal review. We strongly condemn the violence and loss of life at the Capitol and hope those responsible will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney said, "We don't know the extent to the individual's involvement. We understand that the person was there which is not in itself a violation of anything, It's a First Amendment right. Whether or not the individual participated in any illegal activity remains to be seen," Kenney said. "It's not just the police department - there are other departments where individuals allegedly had participated at least in the march, in the First Amendment event, but we don't know the extent of their involvement in anything else."
Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub announced charges on Friday, 1/8, in the murder of of a Bensalem chiropractor. 22-year-old Joseph Robert O'Boyle, of Bensalem, has been charged with one count of criminal homicide, burglary, criminal trespass, and possession of an instrument of crime. It happened on November 2, 2020, at the office of 64-year-old Dr. James Sowa on the 3100 block of Hulmeville Road near Street Road. Officials say that O'Boyle had sought treatment from Dr. Sowa for jaw pain in September 2020. The pain returned and he was upset about the treatment. He returned to the office the day of the attack. Police saw his car on a security camera near the scene. "Our evidence shows that the defendant struck Dr. Sowa with a blunt object on the back of his head," Weintraub said, "then brutally beat him about the jaw while he was already incapacitated, unable to defend himself or fight back." O'Boyle is being held at Bucks County Jail with no bail.
