$20k Reward in Shooting of Comedian; Philly Case Counts Have Dropped; Mini Mart Machine Set on Fire

Philadelphia Police are searching for a suspect wanted for killing an aspiring comedian and rapper on the streets of Overbrook on Christmas Eve. It happened around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, 12/24, on the 1800 block of Wynnewood Road. 20-year-old Dyewoo Scruggs was walking along the road and recording a social media post when he was gunned down. Officials released surveillance video of the suspect approaching Scruggs from over a block away before he shot at least 15 times. The suspect then fled the scene. He is described as a Black male in his twenties, with a dark brown skin complexion and thin build. He was observed wearing a dark quilted (puffy) type jacked, dark green pants and black boots. There is a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. Philadelphia health officials are warning residents to stay home and avoid celebrating the New Year with others outside of their own household. Philadelphia Health Commissioner Dr. Thomas Farley did have some good news on Tuesday, 12/29. He said that daily case counts have been dropping the past three weeks. There has been a 41% decrease in cases since implementing their "Safer At Home" restrictions around Thanksgiving. "Our case counts have been falling for the past three weeks, but the case counts are still high and we still need to be careful," Farley said Tuesday. "We're not recommending people do gatherings anywhere, certainly not indoors and not outdoors with large crowds of people, because even though outdoors is safer than indoors, you're still getting people close together."

Philadelphia Police are searching for two men wanted for setting a game machine on fire earlier this month in Kensington. It happened just before midnight on December 11 on the 3100 block of Kensington Avenue. The incident was captured on surveillance video. The unidentified men entered the mini mart and looked around at the refrigerated cases for a few moments. Then they doused the machine with a liquid they were carrying in a bottle. One of them lights it on fire and flames erupt in the store. The two men ran away from the scene. Sports
The Philadelphia Phillies have acquired left-hand relief pitcher Jose Alvarado from the Tampa Bay Rays in a three-team trade also involving the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 25-year-old Alvarado pitched in 70 games with a 2.39 ERA in 2018. He struggled with injuries the past two seasons. The Phillies send left-handed reliever Garrett Cleavinger to LA.
