Police Shoot Gunman in Deadly Incident; Stray Shots Hit Kids in Germantown; Christmas Tree Recycling

Philadelphia Police are investigating a shooting incident early Christmas morning that left two dead and a third injured in Kensington. It happened around 12:30 a.m. on the 3300 block of Emerald Street. Two police officers responded to a call for a fight over a parking spot. A crowd had gathered and there was pushing and some punches. A 43-year-old man then fired into the crowd. A 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy were struck. The police then opened fire on the the suspect hitting him multiple times. All three shooting victims were taken to the hospital. The suspect and the 15-year-old were pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital. The 17-year-old is in critical condition. A gun was recovered from the scene believed to have been used by the suspect. It was reported stolen from Virginia. The family has identified the alleged gunman as Jesus Perez Sr. The 15-year-old is his son, Jeremy Perez. The 17-year-old is his nephew. Authorities have not confirmed their identities. The family claims that Perez Sr. was not the shooter. They say that he doesn't have a gun. The investigation is ongoing.

Two children are in the hospital after a shooting in East Germantown on Christmas night, 12/25. It happened around 8 p.m. at Bayton and Pastorious Streets. The 11-year-old and 13-year-old boys were hanging out with some friends on the street when they heard gunshots. When the two boys realized they were struck, they ran four blocks to a friend's house for help on the 5800 block of Morton Street. The 11-year-old was grazed on the cheek. The 13-year-old was shot in the arm. They were taken to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in stable condition. No arrests have been made.

The Philadelphia Streets Department has announced dates and locations for Christmas Tree recycling. The program will run from Monday, January 4 to Saturday, January 16 (8a-6p Monday-Saturday, NO Sundays). Trees can be dropped off at one of the six Sanitation Convenience Centers, see below. Everything should be removed from trees including lights, ornaments, and stands. You can still place your tree out on the curb for your regular trash pickup, but it will not be recycled.
