Supreme Court Denies PA Appeal; Suspect Wanted Brick Attack; Philly Flower Show Headed Outside June

The Supreme Court of the United States denied an appeal by certain Pennsylvania Republicans seeking to block the certification of the state's election and throw out mail-in ballots. Justice Samuel Alito wrote on behalf of the court, "The application for injunctive relief presented to Justice Alito and by him referred to the Court is denied." U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly and other legislators have alleged that Pennsylvania's Act 77, passed in October 2019, authorizing expanded or 'no excuse' mail-in voting did not legally pass the PA Legislature. They wanted all 2.5 million mail-in ballots discarded and the votes to be recertified. There is nowhere else for this case to go after being denied at this level.

Philadelphia Police are searching for a male suspect wanted for throwing a brick at another man last month in the Brewerytown section of the city. It happened around 2:40 p.m on Friday, 11/27, on the 3000 block of Jefferson Street. The 33-year-old victim was walking down the street when he was struck in the head by a brick thrown by the suspect. The suspect then fled north on 30th Street. Police have released surveillance video of the suspect. He is described as a Black male, 40 years-of-age, medium build, unshaven, wearing a distinctive multi-colored jacket. The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society announced on Monday, 12/7, that the 2021 Philadelphia Flower Show will be help outside for the first time in the nearly 200-year history of the event. In recent history, "the nation's largest and longest-running horticultural event" has been held at the end of winter inside the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Center City. This year, because of the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, it will held outside in South Philadelphia at FDR Park during late spring. This year's show will be held from June 5-13. "We are working closely with our colleagues at Philadelphia Parks and Recreation and a host of planning experts including the Department of Public Health in Philadelphia to develop the Flower Show into a safe, beautiful, and extraordinary outdoor experience for everyone," the society said.

UPDATE: This year's theme is "Habitat: Natureâ€™s Masterpiece." The show will cover 15 acres of FDR park. Daily timed tickets will be sold as "AM Entry" or "PM Entry" to control crowds and allow for social distancing. Tickets go on sale in January.
