| Over 200 Firearms Missing From Sheriff's Armory; Nurses Strike for 2nd Day; Montco School Closure |

A report from the Philadelphia City Controller's Office released on Wednesday, 11/18, found that over 200 firearms had gone missing from the Philadelphia Sheriff's Office armory between 1977 and 2015. City Controller Rebecca Rhynhart said they received an initial complaint in the fall of 2019 of 15 missing rifles and shotguns. A yearlong investigation revealed that 101 service firearms and 109 Protection From Abuse Act (PFA) weapons were missing from the inventory. "It's unacceptable that more than 200 guns that should be in the Sheriff's Office custody cannot be located," Rhynhart said. "The public needs to trust that the Sheriff's Office is a reliable steward of its own property, as well as the personal property given to the Sheriff's Office for safekeeping. While many of the issues identified pre-date Sheriff Bilal's administration, I hope that she will take quick action to track down the missing guns, if possible, and ensure proper maintenance of the gun inventory moving forward."
The report found no formal procedures for record keeping. Guns were found piled on the floor, and haphazardly placed in various locations. Some were still loaded. Philadelphia Sheriff Rochelle Bilal was sworn into office in January. She said, "They left us with a crazy mess as far as the sheriff's office and it's not just the armory." "The armory is now secure with state-of-the-art security cameras, motion sensors," Bilal said. "There are individually assigned entry codes to track specifically who enters and exits, at any given time, of the armory." The investigation into the location of the missing weapons continues.

Hundreds of nurses marched the picket line for a second day in front of St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, Bucks County. The nurses are looking for higher wages, but are also calling out low-staffing levels. The almost 800 nurses are members of Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals, (PASNAP). The strike was only supposed to last two days, but the nurses won't be allowed back to work until Sunday. The hospital had to hire replacement nurses to take over starting Tuesday, 11/17. The replacement contract lasts 5-days (through Saturday). There is no scheduled meeting for the two sides to get back to the negotiating table.
UPDATE: Nurses were back on the picket line on Thursday, 11/19, as the strike continued for a third day.
Last week, Montgomery County officials announced that schools will go all-virtual for two weeks around Thanksgiving due to coronavirus COVID-19. Public and private schools must stop in-person instruction from Monday, November 23 to December 6. The board of health voted unanimously to close the schools despite a lengthy hearing full of public testimony in opposition. Parents have been protesting the impending order, even going so far as to hold signs outside of County Commission Chair Dr. Valerie Arkoosh's home. Dr. Arkoosh said on Wednesday, 11/18, that they have no plans to extend the order past two weeks. "The order as passed allows schools to offer the educational method or methods they choose beginning on Monday, Dec. 7. Resuming in-person education does not require any vote or any other action," Dr. Arkoosh said.

The Philadelphia 76ers have traded for Danny Green and Terrance Ferguson. They send Al Horford, a 2025 First Round pick, 2020 Second Round pick, and rights to Vasilije Micic to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
They also traded Josh Richardson and draft rights to Pick #36 Tyler Bey to Dallas Mavericks for Seth Curry.
