Two men have been charged after they were found with a van full of homemade explosives, a propane tank, and other equipment in Center City Philadelphia on Wednesday night, 10/28. 41-year-old Brian Larue and 27-year-old Eric Murray have been charged with risking a catastrophe and possessing weapons of mass destruction. Authorities responded to a commercial burglary alarm and observed around a dozen vehicles staged in the parking lot of the City Avenue Marriott. Officers followed one van onto I-76 East and then onto the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. They pulled it over near Logan Circle. Inside the van they found a propane tank, a torch, a taser, electric drills, bolt cutters, a machete, as well as quarter and half sticks of dynamite. Authorities also executed a search warrant at one of their residences. "Our search recovered 26 additional illegal explosive devices, similar to those found in Larue's van, as well as two 12-gauge loaded shotguns," said Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro. There has been over 30 ATM explosions and attempted robberies in the past week. "These individuals seemingly were trying to take advantage of a sensitive moment in our city," Shapiro said.

A few hundred protesters took to the streets in West Philadelphia for a peaceful demonstration on Saturday afternoon, 10/31, following the shooting of Walter Wallace Jr. earlier this week. They originally were going to rally near 61st and Locust, the site of the confrontation that led to the shooting, but they moved the protest to Malcolm X Park. Protesters called for justice for Wallace as well as for police reform. There is no curfew for Halloween night.

There were several shootings on Saturday, 10/31, throughout Philadelphia.

1 a.m. at 18th Street and Passyunk Avenue in South Philadelphia. A 21-year-old man was shot in the thigh while driving. His car was hit several times. He is in stable condition.

3 p.m. on the 100 block of East Duval Street in East Germantown. A 30-year-old man was shot in the head and back. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No arrests.

4 p.m. on the 900 block of East Hunting Park Avenue in Juniata. A 26-year-old man was shot multiple time in the chest. He was rushed to Temple University Hospital and pronounced dead at 4:41 p.m. A 53-year-old was shot in the arm and is in stable condition. A weapon was recovered. No arrests.

8 p.m. at 26th and York Street in Strawberry Mansion. A 53-year-old man was shot twice in the back. He was rushed to Temple University Hospital in critical condition. No weapon was found and no arrests have been made.
