U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have tested positive for coronavirus COVID-19. The President announced their test results in a tweet early Friday morning, 10/2. On Thursday evening, 10/1, it had been revealed that Hope Hicks, a senior advisor to Trump, had tested positive. Trump said that he would begin to self-quarantine after receiving her diagnosis. A few hours later, his positive test results were revealed. Trump is 74-years-old and Melania is 50. His age puts him at a higher risk for complications from the virus. According to a White House official, they are experiencing mild symptoms. Trump is working from the White House residence. Vice President Mike Pence has tested negative. Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and his wife Dr. Jill Biden have tested negative, so has running mate Kamala Harris. Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett has also tested negative.
UPDATE: President Donald Trump will go to Walter Reed Medical Center, a military hospital in Bethesda, MD, for a 'few days' on the advice of doctors to receive treatment.

This evening I received confirmation that both President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
The President and First Lady are both well at this time, and they plan to remain at home within the White House during their convalescence.
The White House medical team and I will maintain a vigilant watch, and I appreciate the support provided by some of our our country's greatest medical professionals and institutions. Rest assured I expect the President to continue carrying out his duties without disruption while recovering, and I will keep you updated on any future developments.
The Trump campaign has filed a lawsuit in state court in Philadelphia seeking to place campaign representatives inside temporary satellite election offices to watch and monitor voting activity. Current state law gives rights to certified poll watchers at assigned polling places on Election Day. Several satellite offices opened in Philadelphia on Tuesday, 9/29, allowing voters to register to vote, apply for a mail-in ballot, receive the ballot in hand, fill it out, and hand it back all in one visit. Technically these are 'election offices' and not 'polling places,' but Republicans are arguing that the activity inside looks a lot like regular voting and want to monitor it. "Bad things are happening in Philadelphia," the campaign's lawsuit said. "While transparency and accountability are hallmarks of election integrity, the actions of Philadelphia election officials to date have undermined election integrity by shrouding the casting of ballots in secrecy." City Commissioner Al Schmidt said earlier this week, "The satellite offices are Board of Elections Offices that provide voter services to the residents of Philadelphia for mail-in ballots. Satellite offices are not polling places and poll watcher certificates have not been issued for any individuals for anything other than poll watching activities on Election Day at Polling Places. So individuals seeking to receive services from a satellite office are not permitted to be there for other purposes."

The Atlantic County Prosecutor's office said on Thursday, 10/1, that two members of the Mitzpah Volunteer Fire Company in Hamilton Township have been arrested following an investigation. 38-year-olds Chief Jay Davenport II and Craig Paxton are charged with official misconduct, conspiracy, and theft. The fire company was shut down after a search warrant was executed on Tuesday, 9/29. The Hamilton Township committee voted to cease funding the volunteer company and to seize township owned equipment. Mitzpah-area residents would be covered by other area fire and rescue companies. Davenport and Paxton are accused of unauthorized use of company funds. They took advantage of the tax exempt status of the fire company and opened up one or more accounts at NAPA Auto Parts. They were released on summons and are due in court on October 28. |
