Philly Breonna Taylor Protesters Block I-95; TSA Arrest Man w/ Gun at PHL; Wolf to Veto Dining Bill

Protesters were back on the streets in Philadelphia for a second night following the Breonna Taylor grand jury decision in Louisville, KY. This protest started at Independence Mall. The group then marched east and about 50 of them made their way onto the southbound lanes of I-95 blocking traffic. Philadelphia Police arrived and were able to getting the group to exit the highway at Columbus Blvd. The protesters then marched through South Philadelphia. They were blocked off by police at the South Street Bridge. It ended around 10 p.m.

A man was arrested on Wednesday, 9/23, after TSA officers discovered a handgun in his shoe (see photo below). It happened at Philadelphia International Airport. The Philadelphia man was trying to pass through a security checkpoint when it was found. The .25 caliber gun was confiscated. It was not loaded. The man faces federal charges. TSA officials say it was the 18th gun found at the airport this year.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf says he will veto a bill passed by the General Assembly that would lift some restrictions on restaurants and bars. The bill would permit restaurants and bars to go above the 50% operating capacity as long as they can meet state and federal social distancing standards or put up approved barriers. The bill would also have gotten rid of the restriction where alcohol could only be bought with a meal and would allow patrons to sit at the bar.

Wolf said, "If the members of the General Assembly want to live up to the duty of care entrusted to them by the people of Pennsylvania, then they need to stop trying to get rid of public health measures that are keeping Pennsylvanians safe." Wolf is pushing for restaurants to go through a self-certification process that will allow them to operate at 50% capacity.

Colder weather will start to cut into the outdoor dining revenue that has helped many restaurants stay afloat over the summer. Some may not find it economically feasible to stay open if they can only serve 50% capacity. In Philadelphia, which is is still only at 25%, it could be worse.
