CDC Says No Halloween Trick-or-treating; Lost Paraglider Was Safe at Home; Sen. Toomey Supports Vote

The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has come out with official coronavirus COVID-19 safety guidance for upcoming seasonal holidays including Halloween and Thanksgiving. For Halloween, it recommends against high-risk activities such as door-to-door trick-or-treating, indoor parties or haunted houses, and trunk-or-treat events. That doesn't mean Halloween is canceled. Some moderate risk activities include outdoor costume parties with social distancing, one-way trick-or-treating, or visiting a pumpkin patch or apple orchard. Low risk activities include carving pumpkins at home, decorating your home, doing a scavenger hunt with your family, doing a treat search at home, or having a virtual costume contest.

Emergency crews spend hours Monday night, 9/21, searching a wooded area in Caln Township, Chester Township for a possible missing paraglider. It turns out he was safe at home. The search began around 8 p.m. on the 200 block of Reeceville Road near the Brandywine Hospital after the report of a dark-colored paraglider that may have went down. There were search crews on the ground and in the air searching through the dark woods. The search was suspended at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, 9/22, with intentions of reconvening this morning. It turns out that the man had safely landed on Monday night and was at home in bed as they were searching. When he woke up Tuesday morning and saw the news, he called police. He told them he thought they may be looking for him.

Pennsylvania Republican Senator Pat Toomey supports voting on President Donald Trump's nominee to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court left by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Trump is expected to announce a nominee by the end of the week.

"When divided government creates tension between the two organs responsible for filling a position on the Supreme Court, it is completely justifiable to leave open a vacancy until the voters have had a chance to speak. In 2016, the voters spoke by electing a Republican president and a Republican-controlled Senate. In 2018, the voters expanded the Republican majority in the Senate. Since the voters resolved the tension between the White House and the Senate, there is no reason to delay filling this vacancy," Toomey said in a statement.

"I will evaluate President Trumpâ€™s nominee to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg based on whether the nominee has the character, intellect, and experience needed to serve on our nation's highest court. These are the same objective, non-partisan criteria that I have used to evaluate judicial nominees under both President Obama and President Trump," Toomey said.
