Route 30 Bypass Crash was Road Rage; Temple Students Go Home; New Jersey Tolls Go Up

Police in Chester County believe that a man struck and seriously injured on the Route 30 bypass is to blame for the crash because of case of road rage. It happened around 3 p.m. Thursday, 9/10, on the eastbound lanes of the Route 30 bypass near South Whitford Road in West Whiteland Township. The man, driving a brown pickup, suddenly stopped and parked his truck in the left lane of the highway. A white van was forced to stop right behind him. The man got out and walked back to the van. According to police, he was violently threatening the driver of the white van. At this point the two vehicles were stopped in the left lane of the 55 mph highway. A Budget rental truck came down the highway, lost control, struck the back of the van, which in turn hit the man. The 53-year-old man from Green Lane, PA, was taken to Paoli Hospital in serious condition. Police want to hear from any witnesses who may have seen what led up to this confrontation such as acts of aggressive driving or road rage.

Temple students were moving out of the dorms on Saturday, 9/12, after the university decided earlier this month to move the vast majority of classes online for the rest of the semester. Students who decided to leave campus by September 13 could get a refund on room and board. Temple started the semester using a hybrid model. After a rise in coronavirus COVID-19 cases among students, it decided to 'pause' in-person classes for two weeks. Cases continued to rise and the 'pause' was extended for the entire fall semester a few days later. Some students have decided to stay on campus to access facilities while they take classes online. There area also a handful of classes that aren't offered virtually and must be taken in person. The rise in cases was attributed to small gatherings off campus.

Starting at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, September 13, tolls on the Atlantic City Expressway, Garden State Parkway, and New Jersey Turnpike will be increasing. The Turnpike will rise 36%, the Parkway will increase 27%, and the Expressway will increase an average of 57 cents. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed the increases back in June after they were approved by the Turnpike Authority in May . The extra tolls will go to a $24 billion construction plan that will widen lanes, implement cashless tolls, and replace the PA/NJ Turnpike bridge. New Jersey drivers also have a 9.3 cents per gallon gas tax increase to look forward too starting October 1.
