The Philadelphia Catholic League is not playing fall sports this season, but three non-Archdiocesan schools that compete in the league announced that they holding an independent season against each other. La Salle College High School, St. Joseph's Prep, and Devon Prep along with fellow independent all-boys Catholic school Holy Ghost Prep will compete in cross country, golf, and soccer. La Salle and the Prep are also exploring options for holding an independent football season. "While we respect the decision of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, we believe that we can offer athletic opportunities for our student-athletes in a safe, controlled manner. Utilizing each schools' Return to Play protocols, which were approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Department of Health and endorsed by the PIAA, we feel strongly that a fall sports season can be done safely. We will take every precaution to ensure that all of our coaches and players are following strict protocols," said Dan DiBerardinis, Athletic Director of St. Joseph's Preparatory School.

Chester County officials have identified a coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak in a high school cheerleading team through contact tracing. The principal of Bishop Shanahan High School in Downingtown sent a letter home to all parents and guardians explaining the outbreak. A cheerleader had been in contact with a field hockey player that had previously tested positive for COVID-19. That cheerleader then was in contact with others. Five cheerleaders have tested positive. The health department is still tracing possible contacts. Those already identified have been asked to self-quarantine for 14 days. School has not yet started at Bishop Shanahan.

Six people were shot and injured on Thursday night, 9/3, in East Germantown including a man hit by a stray bullet while sleeping in his bed. It happened just before midnight on the 700 block of East Chelten Avenue near Chew Avenue. Police arrived to find five men suffering from gun shot wounds in the street. They were picked up and rushed to the Einstein Medical Center. They were between 18 and 26 years old. Another victim was found in a nearby second floor apartment. The 49-year-old man had been sleeping in his bed when he was struck by stray bullet. The shot had gone through his window and hit him in the leg. He was also taken to the hospital. Police recovered 30 shell casings from the scene. "We are working very hard to find out the reasons for this, but what we do know is that we do have group-on-group violence in various parts of the city that's plaguing us right now. That's more than likely the reason for this particular situation," Philadelphia Police Deputy Commissioner Melvin Singleton said. "We know that we have group-on-group violence on this particular block, in this particular area."
